Q: Mail preview pane suddenly vanished

The divider itself has vanished - so this suggestion doesn't work. Here's a screen shot of my Mail window (I have deleted all private information). All you can see at the right hand side is the scroll bar. By sliding the cursor up and down this bar I can get the little "bar + arrow" cursor but can't do anything with it.

I've read various other threads discussing this but none of the suggested solutions work for me.

Nope- the scroll bar is gone but now there's only the the thin edge of the Mail application window. I can still find the little "bar + arrow" cursor about halfway down it, but it doesn't do anything.

PS I also tried rebooting but it made no difference.

That's what doesn't work. The preview pane has disappeared and won't come back.

Yes Leroy - that's it. I can't open/close the preview pane any more.

Did you read the complete tip? Did you try the steps at the bottom?

 

If the above process for revealing the preview pane does not work, do the following:

1. Quit Mail
2. Move ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail to the desktop.
3. Restart Mail
4. If Mail is working properly, delete the com.apple.mail that you had previously moved to the desktop.
