Q: Discrepancy between songs on Ipod Nano 7G and playlists

On my Nano 7G, I have 6 playlists that are selected to sync between iTunes and the Nano.  After syncing, the correct number of songs is actually loaded on the Nano; however, the number of songs in each playlist does not match up properly.  Not even close.

For example, one of my playlists is specific for songs with BPM greater than 145.  The playlist contains 351 songs.  All 351 songs are present on the Nano.  However, the playlist on the Nano only lists 143 songs.   This is despite that all 351 songs are on the Nano, as can be verified by selecting "songs" instead of "playlists" and reviewing the contacts.

I'm completely baffled as to how to get the playlists on the Nano to actually match.....tried resetting and completely re-syncing/reloading the Nano.  No correction.

Would love some advice.  All the songs on the playlist were sync'd and are verifiably on the device, but the playlist itself only shows half or less than half of the songs.....thanks for any help.

I would uncheck Sync Music on the iPod's Music settings screen, then Apply.  All songs should be removed from the iPod.  Confirm by using the iPod and checking its songs.  Then, set it to Sync Music again, with the same playlists selected.

If that does not resolve the discrepancy, do a Restore on the iPod using iTunes.  This erases the iPod, reinstalls its software, and sets it to default settings.

Use iTunes on your Mac or PC to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support

After the Restore, set it to Sync Music again, with the same playlists selected.

NOTE:  If you use the iPod for recording workouts, your existing workout data (on the iPod) will be erased by the Restore.

(Nice to hear from someone else who syncs playlists based on BPM )

Thank you very much for your response.

I tried re-syncing yesterday, but to no avail.  What I tried last night, was to adjust to a reduced bit rate of 128kbs for all of my music being loaded.  That caused significant reduction in the storage, creating much more available space on the Nano.  After that, precisely the same amount of songs were loaded, but the playlists were correctly reflecting the number of songs.

Even though it was not completely out of space last time, evidently this is a potential problem, when you get too close to being completely full.  That's the conclusion I have reached at this point.

Sound at the 128kbs is fine, given that the purpose is to have music for my workouts.

More likely, there was some data corruption on the iPod causing the discrepancy.  Reloading the iPod with the conversion set to 128 kbps resolved the problem by essentially removing all songs and re-syncing.  My iPods are usually loaded close to full capacity, and there does not seem to be any problems.

Actually, I did remove all songs and re-sync at 192kbs first, and it once again loaded all songs, but had the playlists incorrect.  It didn't correct until I tried it a 2nd time, at the 128kbps....

Nonetheless, I'm a happy camper that I got it to work and 128 kbps is fine with me, leaving me more room for future playlists I might want to mount to the Nano.

Thanks and have a good day.
