Q: Why is iTunes loading the data files on finder desktop?

I'm completely stumped. Many many months ago earlier version of iTunes "lost" my library file. With no success restoring from Time Machine backup I eventually uninstalled iTunes and downloaded fresher version to my iMac. Of course, now when I open iTunes it greets me as a new user, etc. But my dilemma is this, and this was never the case before ever when opening the iTunes app.

Now when i open from the dock, iTunes opens and the following files/folders are always dumped to my desktop:

- iTunes Media (folder)

- iTunes Library extras.itdb

- iTunes Library Genius.itdb

- iTunes Library.itl

- Album Artwork (folder)

These items never ever use to sit on my finder desktop. I've tried to change the location through iTunes preferences but to no avail these items always load to desktop. If I recall they used to "live" in my i.e.: /User/timothy530/Music folder.

All my music files that were part of my previous iTunes library reside on a external firewire800 drive.

Any tips on how to have these files quit loadiing and sitting on the finder desktop?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)

All those items belong in your Music > iTunes folder.  You can try manually moving them there, then start iTunes while holding down the option/alt key and when prompted select the iTunes Library.itl file you just moved.  Make sure preferences is indicating the Media folder in the iTunes folder.

I think you created a new iTunes library, and selected your Desktop folder as the location for some reason.  Do this

Open a different iTunes Library file or create a new one - Apple Support

and use the Choose Library option.  Navigate to your user account Music/iTunes/ folder.  If you find that iTunes folder, select the iTunes Library.itl file inside the iTunes folder.

If you don't find an iTunes folder at that location, use the Create Library option, and create a new library in your user account Music folder.

After you have an iTunes library opened from the proper location, you can add your song (and other media) files to it.
