Apple MusicHi,
The battery may need replacing.
Check for the maximum cycle count. Instructions here > Determining battery cycle count for Mac notebooks
http://www.apple.com/batteries/service-and-recycling/
You can replace the battery yourself > https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Pro+15-Inch+Unibody+Late+2011+Battery+Repla cement/7511
But if you have never done this before, I recommend taking your Mac to an Apple Store. You can make a reservation at a Genius Bar in advance.

May 23, 2016 1:45 PM in response to cluelessonappleby OGELTHORPE,If you have a retina MBP, it is not a 2011 model and the battery is not really user replaceable. Log on to the iFixit web site and select the EXACT model MBP that you have and you will understand why replacing glued in batteries are difficult.
Youe best option is to make a genius bar appointment. The evaluation will be FREE.
Ciao.
