I downloaded OS X El Capitan 10.11.5 and now my Macbook restored to its blue background and won't let me change it to my previous wallpaper. I've already tried restarting and when I get to the login screen my background is blurred but there, but once I login it's back to blue and no matter what I do it won't let me make any changes.

    Hi,

A Safe Mode boot deletes system caches that may help after an upgrade or update.

Follow these steps to start up into safe mode.

    1. Start or restart your Mac.
    2. Immediately after you hear the startup sound, press and hold the Shift key.
    3. Release the Shift key when you see the Apple logo appear on the screen.

After the Apple logo appears, it might take longer than usual to reach the login screen or your desktop. This is because your Mac performs a directory check of your startup disk as part of safe mode.

To leave safe mode, restart your computer without pressing any keys during startup.

Then try to change the desktop wallpaper.

Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up

    Hi Carolyn,

Thank you for your response, but unfortunately I am still having trouble changing my desktop wallpaper. When you said to first restart in safe mode, once the login screen appears, do I actually login, and then restart again? Or do I simply hit 'restart' again without logging in and without hitting the shift key the second time?

Do you have any other suggestions? I tried both ways and neither worked, but I'll give it another go.
