    Try this.

You should have both an event and a project folder. Create two folders, named Final Cut Events and Final Cut Projects in your user Movies folder. Move the event and project folders to those new folders.

In FCP, use the Update command. File > Update.

IF they gave you only the project they didn't give you enough. You also need the associated event folder with the media.

@Russ H - Thanks! I am worried about updating the file that I have because I will have to share it again in a format that is compatible with 10.0.8 - we will be doing edits each on our own computers and sending the project files to each other over time. Do you know if there's any way to just downgrade my entire program, since this will be my main project that I'm working on with Final Cut Pro for the next year or so?

@Tom, thanks for asking - yes, I have all of the associated media files as well:)

DO you have the event folders?

THis won't work. You can't legally get an older version and the projects are not backwards compatible to the older version.

Depends on what OS you have installed. If you have 10.10 or higher, FCP X 10.0.8 will not run on it.

As to your question on updating, you can update without trashing the earlier version of the project and event; you're given the option.

Why can't the other editor update? Does he/she have an installation that originated from an App Store download?

Hey - I'm not sure why but he says that he cannot update. Likely because of his very slow internet connection (he is based in the DRC with very slow internet..). It seems like it's not possible for him to update.

If I update the version on my computer, can I then export a version that will work for him each time we exchange the file?

Sorry, but any updated project you send to him from your Mac will be contained in a library or be an xml, which he will be unable to open.

So for the two of you to collaborate, you need to have the same version and he has got to find a way to update. If his connection is slow, download overnight. If it's something else, please post the details and perhaps there's a solution we can offer.

Let us know what you find out.

Okay thanks - I will ask him about upgrading his. Is there some way that I can share my purchase of the 10.2.2 with him for him to download where he is? Or is it just linked to my laptop only? I forget how this works...
