Q: airplay from iMac to ATV 4 doesn't work

Hello,

I can not use Airplay on my iMac.

On my iMac there is an AirPlay icon available and do I have the Airplay option to choose in order to connect to my ATV 4.

But nothing happen.

When I go to the Airplay preferences I see "AirPlay Display:" is off but I can not turn it on.

With iPhone and iPad it works fine.

These hints on the following page were already checked.

El Capitan 10.11.5 (15F34)

Apple TV 4 iOS 9.2

Any idea to solve this issue?

See the firewall section of the support doc you referenced. AirPlay requires two-way comms with the computer.

You say you checked the hints, but are you certain about the firewall? That's a sure AirPlay killer.

You mean the firewall settings for an outgoing connection from iMac to ATV4?
Does it make sense to have firewall rules to suppress outgoing connection in an internal LAN?

There is little point having your firewall enabled on your Mac if you have it enabled on your router, however having said that you should be able to set your Mac's firewall settings to allow appropriate connections.

Thank you very much.
You are right, airplay need a two way connection, therefore the firewall on the iMac needs to be open for it.
