Q: Benq GL2450HT

Hello everyone.

I just wanted to ask if someone else has troubles with this monitor "Benq GL2450HT" too?

I wanted to add that monitor as a second screen to my 2014 Macbook Air with a Mini DP (Thunderbolt) to HDMI Adapter, but it won't work.

All I get is a black screen.

When I use another monitor from Samsung, everything works fine straight out of the box.

I asked the Benq support but they said, as long as it works with Windows, it's no monitor issue and I have to ask Apple.

So here I am... Anyone?

Thanks in advance.

Gerrit

    Hello NilaT,

If you're having trouble with an external display when connecting it with your Mac, the source of the issue may very well be with the Mac or even the adapter used to connect the display to the Mac. Fortunately, however, there are a number of relatively simple troubleshooting steps that can at least help successfully isolate the issue, if not bring about a functional state to the system. The link below will take you directly to the relevant portion of the article for the behavior your configuration's exhibiting.

    All my best.

    Hello Allen,

    thank you for your reply.

I will try the things listed on the link you posted as soon as I get to my desk again.

The funny thing is, it seems to work, somehow.

    Let me explain why.

First, I tried my other PC Monitor, a Samsung SyncMaster S27A550H, 27'' with the exact same setting as the Benq GL2450HT.

Same Macbook, same adapter, same cables. The Samsung monitor works just fine.

But when I plug in the Benq, the screen only shows black.

BUT, the monitor IS recognized, because I see some of its settings, and my cursor can leave the screen of my macbook and go to the - all black - screen of the Benq. So it works, somehow... But I see no screen on the Benq.

    Very funny.

I also made a picture of what I see on the Macbook, but I have it at home.

    I will upload it tonight.

    Thanks again.

    Regards,

    Gerrit
