Mac OS XOK I will do the update. After making a backup of course.
Could this be a hardware graphice issue? I only ask because I'm nearly at the end of my 1 year warranty and if it could be hardware I'd rather get it into them now

DesktopsCould this be a hardware graphice issue?
It could be -- there seems to be an anecdotal problems reported in the MacBook pro Hardware forums of hanging with iris graphics in early 10.11 versions in the 13-in MacBook Pro. So if a software update to 10.11.5 does not solve the problems, a Genius bar appointment for an evaluation would be a good idea. (and it's free.)
If you think you might want Applecare extension to three years, you MUST sign up before the one-year warranty expires.
For me, I consider the Apple Care extension to three years coverage for notebook computers a requirement, because their portability and battery operation has the potential to produce huge stresses on them. I have Not purchased those plans for my Mac Pro 42lb silver towers, even though the parts are more expensive, because they do not run on batteries and do not get slammed around by being moved.
