Q: change head of family sharing

Hi,

We are a family of 5. Although I'm the head of the family, a few years back my son created the family sharing account, with him being the head of the family. So far so good. Now my credit card (which has been used by my son with y consent for paying the accounts) is hijacked. I have a new credit card, and now I want to change the head of the family to my instead of my son. We can delete the previous family sharing and create a new one, but all of our shared photos, agenda and apps are than lost. And I wonder if our music subscription will continue. Perhaps I will have to pay twice for the same period of time.  My questions is: is it possible to change only the head of the family (fro  my son to me) and leave everything else intact in our family sharing?

    Family Sharing - Apple Support

You can follow through with >System Preferences>iCloud>Family Sharing and see if you have any option there.

No you can't do that. All purchases made in his account will stay in his account and can't be transferred. Only purchases made by a member who had credit in his name will stay with that member.

The only way would be to create a new Family Share with you as the head.

    Hi Glenn, (and Also Eric!)

    Thanks for thinking with me.

My problem is not transferring the purchases. It's simply that I would like to be the organizer as I'm the parent and owner of te card. And not my teenager son. He helped me creating the family sharing account, and in that process we (we created the family sharing together) made him the family organizer. That means that he has now control over the credit card. That is no problem when everything goes smooth, but now I have to change credit card details. And that is only possible with my son's account. And he is not around. My challenge is now to continue the family sharing (mainly apple music).

    regards,

    Marius

And you still can't do that. Since you opted to have your son as the organizer, all purchases made with the credit card belongs to him and will remain with him. If you want to keep up with what you have, your son will have to continue with the account.  If that's not possible, then create a new one and go on from there.

Purchases from all family members should be available to everyone in the group. So creating a new Family Share should still give everyone the ability to access the same content as long as the new group contains the same members, including your son (since he will have all the purchases made originally).

Note that you can only change groups once a year, so know what you want to do before doing anything. Read the article Eric posted carefully.
