May 24, 2016 11:08 AM in response to John Kernanby Meg The Dog,Are your source files H.264?
FCP 7 does not work correctly with those files - which often results in strange behavior.
If they are, convert the files to ProRes and then edit on a ProRes timeline.
If they are not H.264, post back with the source file properties and your sequence settings information.

May 24, 2016 12:47 PM in response to John Kernanby Meg The Dog,You are speaking about rendering files in the timeline, and not exporting, correct?
If you are confident that nothing is amiss in the timeline, did you try
deleting your render files and trying again?
Deleting your preferences (the usual first step when FCP begins acting in unexpected ways)
