Q: How do I stop a download from automatically opening

How do I stop a downloaded file automatically opening, as it is really frustrating when I download music or videos and the files automatically play.

This is a question I intend to answer as I discovered the answer today and could not find it in the community. Apple support also could not solve this issue.

Answer:

In Safari Preferences in the General section there is a little box at the bottom that is checked by default, uncheck that box.

The check box is called:

Open "safe" files after downloading

"safe" files include movies, pictures,

sounds, PDF and text documents, and

archives
