There is no such thing as a Windows based DVD, they can be read by all computers. Of course you will need a DVD Player for your Retina iMac, Apple makes one or you can find others at retailers such as Amazon or my personal favorite OWC (www.macsales.com).

However what is important is the content of the DVD, if you can give us a clue there then we can tell you more.

Your comments made it clear that I should have been much more precise in the descriptions of the problem that I am trying to solve. Here is a more complete statement.

I have an IMac, with a 27" 5K monitor and an Apple SuperDrive USB CD/DVD Player.

When I attempt to play a recent  Disc with report from a recent CT Chest scan I receive an error message to the effect that the files have been written by a Windows formatted system that i can't read.

So far I have been unable to find a solution.

What is the EXACT message you get? I'm guessing that the files are in a format for which you don't have a suitable application on your Mac, or you are attempting to execute a Windows program that is on the disk.
