Q: Is there a way to have notes in the performance screen without using another programm for the note and having it "sit on top" of the performance screen?

I would like to have my song notes present somewhere on the screen during performance mode - I am using the latest version of Mainstage

Just add a Text screen control in Layout mode. You can change the text on a patch or set basis, or leave as-is at concert level. See here for easy instructions: http://ericwbarfield.com/blog/2016/2/1/mainstage-mondays-how-to-change-text-on-e ach-patch
