Doing so requires at least OS X 10.8.5 or Windows 7.
Be sure your iTunes is current.

If you already installed the latest stable version of iTUNES on your computer (Windows 7 ) only-
Please disconnect the Device from Lightning cable
check the Drivers installed>>Click start>run>"Devmgmt.msc"
Check the Universal serial BUS Controllers > If the New drivers regards to apple iphone is listed
click on SCAN FOR CHANGES- Repair If needed >Restart the Asset as well the Phone
Now connect the Device and wait until it gets detected automatically
right Click and check the the settings>> Manage Device Manually
