Q: Third party apps not working on Apple Watch

After I bought the Apple Watch over a month ago, still a lot of third party apps (like Facebook Messenger, Swarm, Skype or GoPro) aren't working on the watch. Most of them keep loading or crash after a few seconds.

It feels like a miss a lot of the functionality of my Apple Watch because those apps aren't working.

Another update from me - had a syncing issue on 70GB of music (all tunes greyed out - phone thought it was still mid-sync) so bit the bullet and deleted it all and then did take the opportunity to attempt the restore encrypted backup of my phone from iTunes. Lo and behold third party apps start working. So the final recommended step on this thread works, but I would not classify it as a solution as it's not satisfactory to have to do this to get a new watch to work (and I wouldn't have been willing to delete all music if I hadn't needed to). So I hope Apple Engineers continue to find a fix as the 'workaround' does not fill me with confidence about the dependencies in the watch software that cause this problem.

I just got an apple watch last night and am having the same issues with the 3rd party apps. By deleting all "music" on my phone, does that also include audiobooks or just specifically "music"?

No, this does not include audio books. Some other steps you might want to try:

    1. Restart both your apple watch and iPhone.
    2. Delete and reinstall the third party apps on your Apple Watch.
    3. Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone and scroll down to the list of apps.
    4. Tap on the third party app you want to delete.
    5. Turn off the “Show on Apple Watch” switch.
    6. Once all the third party apps are deleted from your apple watch, you can reinstall them by going in to each of the third party apps and turning on the “show on Apple Watch” switch again.

    Good luck!
