Q: Sorting folders before files in finder. Help!

So far I have learnt that I can navigate to InfoPlist.strings and alter the code via the terminal, however the code I found was different than the one I found on the website(http://www.howtogeek.com/67100/force-your-mac-to-put-folders-on-top-of-files-win dows-style/). I have been trying to convert the code I have from binary to mxl with no luck, so I'm not sure how to proceed. I have a Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 so I'm not sure if the coding is different or what. Basically, I'm just trying to force my folders to be above my files in finder. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

As many have said already, the fact that the feature doesn't exist does not mean there is no need for it. Some Mac owners' lives do not revolve around Apple but we use Apple products as mere tools to do the things WE want to do. Believe it or not, there are valid reasons for organizing folders before files, and sorting by Kind doesn't work, because 2 files with the same name but different extensions will not be next to each other where we would like them to be, e.g. a .docx and .pdf version of the same document.

Since Apple is deaf to our pleas, I have found a solution that works for me. You must name your folders to begin with numeric characters, such as 1 articles, 2 books, 3 documents, 4 notes, etc. If you have documents that begin with numeric characters you may have to start the folders with 01 02 etc. or something that precedes the lowest order document name to begin each folder name.

Not perfect but it is a good option.  I love my MAC and have frustration attacks when I have to support a windows based pc now (LOL) but I do like and prefer the windows way to display folders first than files alphabetically.  I find this to be a easy way to locate things.  BUT, the 'Arrange by Kind' option is very good and with a little use I believe it will become my preferred view as it does arrange everything in alphabetical order but by the type (kind) of file/folder.  This is, I believe an improvement and much more logical way to view files/folders.
