Q: external hard drive denying access permissions..

I recently purchased an external drive (G-Drive) for my secondary back ups.

Now I get an error message (occasionally) stating that I have no permission to it's contents and I can't eject the hard drive from my desktop.

And when I get access to copy contents to the hard drive it just shows that it's preparing to copy without transferring any contents..

I open the "Get Info" tab and it has my user account to read/write the hard drive's contents.

I should have access to hard drive to do the above actions but somehow it's not allowing me.

I have another external hard drive and it completes all it's activities.

          I'm running Yosemite 10.10.5

I'm miffed on this one...      ~A~

    select the drive

    type

    CMD+i

unlock and choose "ignore ownership on this drive"

Check your permissions or Run Disk Utility > First Aid on the entire drive (upper icon).

Also Get Info (command + i) on the Volume and check that "Ignore Ownership on this volume, is not check marked.

LOL! Our replies couldn't be more different and I bet both of ours are working flawlessly.

I ended up going to the Apple Store to have them double check the GDrive.

The Genius checked out the ACL which I believe relates to permission issues.

We checked the GDrive against another GDrive I have and both seem to be working fine.

I did forget to mention that on the "problematic" GDrive I did download El Capitan and used this drive as a start up disk to try it out.

I did erase the El Capitan files before copying data over to the drive, though the Genius pointed out that there would be some directory files left over

that could've caused an issue and that it would be best to reformat the drive to eliminate and potential issues.

       Wish I knew beforehand.
