Q: export from photos app takes for ever?

Dear communitie

 

i have around 31'000 Pictures on my Photos app and in the iCloud. i tried to export the unedited originals to an external HD. the export was running around 30 hours but there where no datas on the target destination and when i tried to close photos app it told me that it's still exporting.

 

can it be that it takes for ever? or might there be an hidden error that is not visible for me. has anybody experience with export of 30'000 pictures?

 

MacBook Pro mid 15 with 16gb memory running on 10.11.5

    Are you using iCLoud Photo Library?  If so do you have hte Mac set to download the original sor to use optimized photos?

    i am using the iCloud Photo Library and i've selected to have the Original files on my MAC.

     

    how would you recommend to do such an export?

    What is the file system of the destination drive ? If it is not MAcOS Extended (Journaled) but a windows file system, export to a folder on this drive, not to the top level.

    i am using the iCloud Photo Library and i've selected to have the Original files on my MAC.

    Did you just recently switch from "Optimize" to "Download Originals"? Has the syncing with iCloud finished or is there still a progress bar in the Photos > Preferences > iCloud?

    Do you have enough free storage on the drive where you are exporting to?

     

    Make a test with exporting a single photo as the original.  Does that work for a single Photo?

    Are you seeing the exported image file?

     

    Which file name preset are you using for the exported files?  If you are using "Filename > Use Title" the files may be invisible after exporting because of a bug in Photos. See this User Tip:    Bug:  Exporting Images with "Filename: Use Title" Exports the Files as Invisible if the Title has Been Deleted
