Q: iphone stuck in recovery mode even after update or restore

iPhone 6, iOS 9.3.2, 16GB

When iOS9 came out, I updated my iPhone 6, the update failed, it was stuck in recovery mode, I looked for a tutorial online, I had to restore my phone and recover it from a previous backup, it was nasty, but it worked.
Same thing happened to a friend of mine and that's the issue now.
I did the same thing step by step, updating the phone through iTunes didn't work. So we had to restore the phone, which didn't work as well.
After many tries, (basically trying to restore 5 times), it did finally work. It had installed the latest current software, and it was all fine.

We had to set up the iPhone as a new phone as we didn't have a back-up.

two fails:
*since i set up the phone just for it to be able to turn on, and used my iTunes app, when it finally worked, I tried resetting the phone to factory settings, which rebooted the phone and put it in recovery mode. had to restore it again (with all the issues that came along with it, mentioned above.)

*second try: as soon as we restart the phone (using home and lock buttons properly), it puts it back in recovery mode, there's no way to get out of. (I literally tried every single trick i found online).

so mainly whatever we do, even after a fresh installation, after a phone reboot, we're back to recovery mode.

This was initially a software issue which many people faced during the first update of iOS9, but now I'm starting to think that this software defect may have created a hardware issue as well?
