Q: Podcast deleted in iTunes Store but feed still working?

For some reason my podcast has been deleted from iTunes and while current subscribers still can listen to new episodes on iTunes, it is not possible to find the podcast in iTunes store and subscribe to it. Store link: https://itunes.apple.com/dk/podcast/bulibold.dk-bulipod/id954016630

In Podcastconnect the podcast's status has been set to 'Deleted'. Why is this? Naturally, I'm trying to add the feed again. However, when doing so I'm getting this error: "Can't read your feed".

I've checked on Feedvalidator, Podba.se and and castfeedvalidator.com and all say that my feed is valid. Check for yourself: http://bulibold.dk/feed/podcast/

So; my podcast is gone from the iTunes Store so new subscribers cant find it. Current subscribers still get the feed in their iTunes app and the feed is working and valid. What to do?

This seems to be a problem with your server. I can subscribe to the feed in iTunes, and see it in Firefox (my default RSS reader), but using 'curl' in Terminal to access it brings up the error 'HTTP 403 forbidden'.

The most common reason for this is when one tries to access a directory when there isn't an index.html file in it - if there were you would automatically see that file, but you are normally not allowed to access a directory listing. Since you don't have a filename, but you don't have an index.html file anyway (since it's a feed we're trying to access) I can only conclude that the server is distinguishing between requests fro browsers or the iTunes application, which it allows, and requests from Terminal or the iTunes Store, which it doesn't. Evidently it did originally or you wouldn't have got your podcast into the Store in the first place. All this is of course guesswork since I can only report what I've seen; you will need to ask the people running your server.

    Hi Roger,

I am not entirely sure what you mean. It seems odd that the server should allow it in the first place and then not allow it now. However, I'm gonna ask the people running the server but what should I ask them specifically?

Tell them that the iTunes Store validation says 'can't read the feed' and that testing in Terminal produces HTTP error 403 Forbidden.

You're using the PowerPress plugin to generate your feed. I work with the Blubrry support team and I've taken a look at the feed and it seems fine to me. The only thing I noticed is your media is a little slow to load in a browser. But, that shouldn't be enough on its own to cause you to be delisted from the iTunes Store. I'd suggest contacting iTunes Support and asking them what's going on:

I'm using the powerpress plugin too and this is my exact same problem. I've contacted support, but they keep asking me to give them these general steps to reproduce the issue. Also, said that "After reviewing this podcast, I was unable to confirm this RSS feed URL was ever submitted to us." Even though it's been there for over a year and we have a lot of subscribers. Tried to validate and it says it "can't reed my feed" even though feedvalidator.org says it's good.

Powerpress has this option to set a new url feed (attached image), but I'm not sure how that works. Screen Shot 2016-07-16 at 6.06.52 PM.png

cmadden - What's the URL of the PowerPress feed you're having trouble with?

I ran your feed thru two validators and everything came up fine. I also did a test with Podcasts Connect and it says the feed is "Prepared for Submission." You said your show was listed in the iTunes Store before but was removed, and when you contacted iTunes support, they told you they couldn't find a listing under your current URL? Did you possibly have the show listed before under a different URL? Either way, it looks like to me like you can submit this feed to the store now, if you want.

    To add to Roger's comment:

Makraan, are you using Wordpress security software? Perhaps your security software is blocking access to your files.

"Curl" is one method of accessing files on your website. It is blocked, and the iTunes servers may also be blocked:

    curl http://bulibold.dk/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/bulipod-ep-20.mp3

    Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /wp-content/uploads/2016/06/bulipod-ep-20.mp3 on this server.

Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

This command attempts to access a portion of the audio file, and it is blocked:

    curl -H Range:bytes=50-60 -I -L http://media.blubrry.com/bulipod/bulibold.dk/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/bulipod- ep-20.mp3 HTTP/1.1 302 Found Location: http://bulibold.dk/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/bulipod-ep-20.mp3 Connection: close Date: Thu, 21 Jul 2016 00:25:54 GMT Server: RawVoice HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden Date: Thu, 21 Jul 2016 00:25:54 GMT Server: Apache/2.4.16 (Unix) OpenSSL/1.0.1e-fips mod_bwlimited/1.4 mod_fcgid/2.3.9 Connection: close Content-Type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1

cmadden, try submitting your podcast now. I tested your podcast (in Podcasts Connect) and also confirmed it is ready to go. Searching the iTunes Store for your podcast's title doesn't return an exact result, so I assume you haven't submitted yet.
