Q: Cannot add cards back to apple pay after restoring.

I had all my cards on apple pay until yesterday. But yesterday I thought to restore my phone as new and since after doing that I can't add any cards back to the apple pay. When I enter all the information, It says verifying and then displays a message that says "Card could not be added. Please try again later or contact the card issuer for more information."

Having the same issue.  Have tried all the "fixes" and absolutely no help.  Upgraded to a 6s from a 6 and this is the problem.  So weird

Who do I contact to get this resolved?

I had the same issue with not being able to ad my cards after I did a reset. I had tried this exact step 3 previous times and it didn't work. 1 week later I tried it again after finding this exact post and it all worked just fine ...

    Here is what I did:

    1. Go to settings

    2. Select iCloud

    3. Select your Apple ID (at the top)

    4. Select payment

    5. Tap on the card you have stored there (most likely for iTunes purchases)

    6. Enter your expiration date and security code and click save.

    7. Then go back to the main settings menu and select Passbook and Apple Pay

    8. Select Add credit or debit card

    9. You should then be prompted to enter your security code. Enter that and it should work this time. You can then go through the process of confirming that card and adding other cards.

I Had the same issue, had a 5S & Apple Watch & my Halifax UK debit card worked perfectly.

upgraded to a new 6S plus and restored my backup from iTunes and couldn't get my card to add back to Apple Pay, spoke to my bank who confirmed it was correctly removed  from my device.

I Checked this forum which led me to this thread I tried all the solution that are in this post and nothing worked, so I was just about to book an genius appointment in my local Apple Store but I realised that there was one thing I hadnt tried disabling which was family sharing.

So I disabled it and tried to add my card again, BAM! This worked like a charm and let me add my card back to Apple Pay on both my 6S Plus & Apple Watch.

for all you people having trouble give it a try.

After a restore I lost the ability to re-add cards that had been there previously.

Mosinter's method fixed it for me!  (Disable passcode, attempt to add card, re-enable passcode)

    Hi All,

I've recently developed the same issues  described on this thread, with a couple added problems.

In my case, Apple pay has never given card issues until now.  I have a Debit card, and two credit cards, all Visa, and all through my Bank BB&T.

I had to have my original 6 swapped under apple care due to a faulty NFC sensor and other issues.  The replacement was working fine, then I restored to fix a corrupted data problem.  I always add my debit card during initial setup because it's stored in iTunes, and that card always adds itself correctly.

When I got  everything stable, I decided to add my credit cards back, and just verify them with the bank on monday since they don't work over the weekend.

On doing so, I got the same card not added message in this post shown several times.  So thinking there was left over data, I did another restore just to be safe, and the debit card added on setup and activated as expected, but not the credit cards.  Then I tried something I didn't see mentioned here.  I tried to add the cards to the iPad Air 2 to see if it was just the phone.  To my surprise, the cards wouldn't add to the iPad either, and what's strange about that, is the iPad is new within the last couple months, and the only card  i ever had added to it was my card stored in iTunes.

I have an open case with Apple, I'm waiting to call the bank on monday to check with them.  This clearly seems like a remote issue, not device specific, at least for me, since a device that's never had the cards added to it won't take them.

All my devices are running iOS 9.3.1.  I was wondering if anyone had  some new solutions to try beyond what i've read here.  This is a long thread and it seems like it's still going, It also seems like my situation is slightly different from most here since most are just dealing with a phone and they've all been after a restore, where as a device in my case that's never had the cards added, still won't take them.

I know my cards themselves are fine, as I had just used one  to order lunch before trying to add to apple pay, and the other was used to purchase the iPad a couple months ago.

    Hey all,

Just thought I'd follow up and let everyone know the issue has been resolved.

While I don't have any kind of detailed answer as to what happened, I can report all my cards work on both my iDevices now.

Nothing has been resolved for me. Upgrade WatchOS to 2.2.1 and had issues with messages only showing phone number and couldn't find a fix. So I did a restore which fixed my contacts/messages issues, but my Apple Pay was no longer setup on my watch. I re-setup on the iPhone, but it can't be added to Apple Watch. Seems to be the same issue as those on this thread but with the Apple Watch instead of iPhone.

Called my bank and they are pointing at Apple.

If I can't find another solution here, I will call Apple Care.

    Hi,

but my Apple Pay was no longer setup on my watch. I re-setup on the iPhone, but it can't be added to Apple Watch.

Make sure your card is supported >  Apple Pay participating banks and store cards - Apple Support

Make sure you are following the instructions for, "Add a card on your Apple Watch" >  Set up Apple Pay on your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch - Apple Support

As you are likely aware, your card is definitely supported for Apple Pay.

Your bank would have told you, when you spoke with them, if it was not.

You would also, more obviously, not otherwise have already been able to add it back to Apple Pay on your iPhone.

The following steps (a speculative suggestion) may help:

    • Check that Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are both enabled on your iPhone:
      • iPhone: Settings > Bluetooth - on.
      • iPhone: Settings > Wi-Fi - on.

    • Check that your watch and iPhone are connected:
      • When viewing the time on your watch, swipe up on the watch face > swipe left / right to the Settings Glance > check that this states Connected and shows a green phone icon.
      • Keep your devices close together whilst completing the remaining steps.

    • On your iPhone, in the Watch app:
      • Go to: My Watch (tab) > Passcode > tap on Turn Passcode Off.
      • Go to: My Watch > General > Wrist Detection - turn this off.

    • After pausing for a minute or so, close all open apps on your iPhone and restart both devices:
      • On your iPhone, double-click on the Home button, then swipe up on each app preview to close it;
      • Turn both devices off together, then restart your iPhone first;
        • To turn your watch off: press and hold the side button until you see the Power Off slider; drag it to turn off.
        • To turn it back on: press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.

I cannot turn off my passcode on either watch or phone as I have a custom device management from my company. I did however change my passcode on both watch and phone, and still cannot add card to watch.

Phone and watch are definitely connected. I've tried closing all apps and restarting both devices. Apple pay is setup on the phone and should work (though I haven't tried since the re-install), but it cannot be setup on the watch.

Just got off the phone with Apple Support - Sal was excellent! So we tried a bunch of stuff, none of which worked. In the end, I un-paired the watch and set it up as new rather than try to restore. Apply Pay was still setup on the phone at that point and adding it (back) to the watch worked immediately. Now I just need to re-customize the watch - music, photos, complications, etc... but at least Apple Pay is back working on the watch.

    Guys

Disable passcode (How to disable pass code?)

    - Under settings for your iphone

    - Under apple watch app (on your iPhone) got to the apps settings

    Add card

(Do this for your iPhone first, once successful, perform the same to your watch)

Assign passcode (It will prompt you to assign a passcode)

Now go back to wallet and add card

    Boom!!!

Works for iPhone and Apple Watch
