Q: 4K 60Hz on Macbook Pro mid 2015 with Mini Displayport to HDMI 2.0A Active Adapter

Has anyone had success getting 4K (3840 x 2160) @60hz over HDMI using an Uptab Mini Displayport to HDMI 2.0A Active Adapter?

My setup:

mid 2015 MacbookPro with the AMD R9 Graphics card

El Capitan Version 10.11.5

Seiki SE42UMS 4K TV

HDMI 2.0 capable cable

I have been able to get 4K @30hz using the internal HDMI 1.4b port or Displayport to HDMI 1.4b adapter as well as the new Uptab Mini Displayport to HDMI 2.0A Active Adapter I just purchased.  I have read a few reviews of Mac Pro users who have used the same Uptab adapter successfully to get 4K @60hz using HDMI but I do not even see a 60hz Refresh Rate option in the Display Preferences.  Therefore, I'm not sure if it is a problem Apple needs to fix in the software or if it is another problem that I'm overlooking.

Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5)

The reviewers you speak of used mac Pro's and not a macbook pro. I don't believe your macbook has a 4K @ 60Hz able output.

I'm familiar with the 4K article from Apple.  I guess I was trying to better understand the reasoning behind the limitations Apple is imposing both from a technical limitation of the physical transport (ie HDMI 1.4b cannot support 4K @60hz but HDMI 2.0 can) as well as an intentionally programmed software limitation (ie not enabling the capability due to the physical limitation).  What Apple has documented made perfect sense up until the release of the Displayport to HDMI 2.0a Active Adapters.  Now there are physical adapters that no longer have the physical limitation.  Therefore, does Apple have to expose the capability or is it already exposed and I just haven't figured out how.

An Apple store genius bar may be able to give you a definitive answer.  I have 'old' equipment and only connect to a HD TV via HDMI.

    Ciao.
