Did you check with Epson for an updated print driver?

I haven't yet, thanks.  It's a royal pain wish I knew updating would cause this to happen.  Lots of time spent and lost determining and fixing this.  I thought Apple was better than MicroSoft but am beginning to have my doubts.

I have the same with Samsung M2835, HP Envy 4500 and Sonos system. iMac running 10.11.5 doesn't 'see' them. All working fine before. Spent an hour on the phone with Samsung technician - reinstallation wouldn't work. Any help will be welcome. Thanks.

Btw. Screen has frozen three times since the upgrade too.

I have yet to find a solution, but intend to see if Epson and Samsung have compatible printer driver updates for the latest El Capitan Version 10.11.5.  Will make an attempt today.

If you haven't done so already, try resetting the printing system.

Are your printers connected directly to your MacBook Pro, connected to a Windows computer or on the network?

Here is a solution if your printer is shared through a Windows computer.

You are welcome. Resetting the printers isn't the same as resetting the printing system. See the link I posted.

Thanks, the printers are shared through a Windows Computer and were working perfectly before the latest El Capitan update.  My Mac recognizes the printers and shows them as idle, however print jobs won't transmit to the printers.  I will try removing the printers from the Mac and re-installing them.  I had hoped that it wasn't necessary to do so.

Again Thanks Eric,  I get what you are saying, my terminology was incorrect. I did mean resetting the printing system as per the link.

Well I tried the recommendations you and the above users have suggested.  I removed the printers from my Mac Pro, re-installed and went out for any updated printer drivers.  I followed the steps in the recommended link but nothing has worked.  As a matter of fact it turns out that I already had the latest drivers for my respective printers.  I hope someone else has found a solution for this print problem with version 10.11.5 of El Capitan.

    Hi Roger,

Just solved this problem for myself, albeit with a different printer. Hopefully it works for you as well!

My printer is a 'Brother', so just substitute your model into the instructions.

    Firstly, uninstall the printer drivers:

If multiple Brother machines are installed to your Macintosh and you want to uninstall only one of the drivers, it is required that you uninstall all of them at once and then re-install the drivers for machines you need. You cannot uninstall the driver of a specific machine separately.

    1.     For local users: disconnect the USB cable between the Macintosh and your Brother machine.

    2.     Log on as an Administrator.

    3.     Open Printers & Scanners.

    4.     Select the machine.

If the machine is not listed, go to step 8.

    5.     Click the - minus button located below the Printers list.

    DeleteDriverPrintScan1.jpg

    6.     Click Delete Printer or OK.

    7.     If the machine is listed more than once, repeat steps 4 - 6 for each copy.

    8.     Open MacintoshHD Library Printers Brother. Drag the Brother folder into the Trash bin.

    DeletePrintersFolder.jpg

    9.      Open MacintoshHD Library Printers PPDs Contents Resources. In the Resources folder, drag all Brother xxx-xxxx CUPS.gz files and                              Brother xxx-xxxx.gz files into the Trash bin.

    DeleteDriverFiles.jpg

    10.     Empty the trash bin.

    11.     Restart the Macintosh by clicking the Apple Menu and Restart.

Now, reinstall your drivers and you should be good to go!

Thanks much for your information.  After follow the steps outlined in your reply I still am unable to access my printers.  It's as if the print job get's hung up on the MacBook Pro although it see's the network and printers. My problem goes on!

This doesn't work for me, on either of two Samsung printers (1850W and C460) or a Brother QL-720NW, all three of which worked perfectly up to two days ago when I updated to 10.11.5.

I have followed the instructions (which is basically to 'nuke and pave' all printer settings) but still no joy. The printers all continue to work from other Macs and from my iPhone using AirPrint.

Now I have no choice but to go back to the previous version of Os X, using a clone of some weeks ago.

Every one of the last four upgrades to Os X has screwed up something necessary, and basic, on one or all of my Macs. It's not inspiring confidence, to say the least.
