Q: Lines on my photos

I am traveling in Europe with two cameras and my Ipad. Decided to take the IPad instead of my MacBook Pro. All photos--both cameras--show black lines About an 1/8 of the way in on the right side of every image. I have two different connectors, have used different memory cards and both cameras. It must be the Photo software. I have the current IOS. Luckily I have not removed any of the hundreds of images from the memory cards and will download them to my desk top when I get home but all the images on my IPad are unusable. Anyone have this problem And a solution?

iPad (3rd gen) Wi-Fi, iOS 9.3.2

I assume the lines are not there when you're looking at other contents. Tha eliminates ipad hardware issue.

Since both, separate cameras exhibit the same problem, it's unlikely both would have failed at the same time, with the same problem.

The issue, therefore, might be with either, software, or a piece of hardware that is common to both cameras.

Standard steps to troubleshoot software are a Reset and a Restore.

Reset: hold down the Home and Power buttons until you see the Apple logo (15-20 seconds).

    Restore: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204184

If no change, I would take the device for an evaluation at the nearest Apple Store.

The problem is not with cameras but with ios 9.3.2. I have the same problem on an ipad air since i updated ios. The apple store exchanged my ipad for a new one with an older version of ios and there were no black lines. But i upgraded again to 9.3.2 and i have black lines again.

on both ipads i tried resetting the device as a new ipad with no backup and the problem persists.

NO solution exists as far as I know. For me the ipad is now bricked since editing photos from my canon dslr was my one and only usage.

I have the same problem, too. I'm using a Nikon D600. However, I have discovered that the problem does not apply to the Photoshop Express app on my iPad. In order to use the iCloud photosharing function through Photo, I resave the photos I need in PS Express and then select them in the Photo app for sharing. Cumbersome, so it would be nice if Apple could solve the issue.

When I get home, I will import the (raw) photos into Lightroom on my desktop PC, and I guess I will have no problems there.

I already tried reset. The problem seems to be connected to how the Photo app reads/displays pictures. If I take a photo imported into Photos that it displays with these lines and post it on Instagram, the lines magically disappears.

The way I have solved this problem is to use the Wi-Fi on the camera so I send the photos to the Ipad with no problem. And I have a little back up drive that has a slot for the camera disk.

I had those same artifacts, starting with a recent iOS update, on my iPad (4th gen).  I installed the new update 9.3.3 this morning and it appears the problem has been fixed!

I just downloaded and installed iOS 9.3.3 and the problem is still present. Photos imported from my Flickr and Dropbox account all show black lines on the right side once on the iPad. The same photos import and display OK on my iPhone 6, but when I look at them on the iPad from photostream, they have the lines. Hmmm.

Sorry to hear that.  I had saved a few photos with the problem on my iPad.  When I saw that 9.3.3 was available, I looked at my samples - they still had the issue - then performed the update.  I then re-reviewed my sample photos and every one of them displayed correctly, without the line artifacts along one edge.  At least on my device, it appears the update fixed things...

Good for you. I wish I could say the same. I ran a few more tests and found out that some photos display without the lines. In case it has to do with the camera and editing applications, the photos were taken with the Canon 5DSr and edited in Adobe Lightroom and/or Photoshop.

I suspected editing software at first (I put my watermark on photos with Photoshop) as nearly every shot with my watermark that I transferred to my iPad had the artifacts/lines.  However, I did also eventually notice the problem on photos I did not edit in Photoshop.

Some additional info for what it may be worth:  1) photos (RAW) taken with Nikon D4;  2) all photos edited on PC with Nikon Capture NX2 & converted to .jpg;  3) photos transferred to iPad using "Remote Files" app (network viewing app that supports file movement to iPad/iPhone);  4) display problem occurred on my iPad (4th gen) but not on my iPhone 6;  7) viewing the photo in Photos and enlarging it (finger spread motion) would make the lines disappear temporarily(!) but they reappeared if I exited the photo and re-viewed it.

While my sample/test photos were fixed with the upgrade to 9.3.3, it may take some more time to see if the problem possibly rears back up on new photos - hopefully it won't...

I might as well do the same.

Photos taken in RAW with Canon 5DSR; edited in Adobe Lightroom and/or Photoshop on a 2015 MacBook Pro; display problem (black horizontal lines on right edge) appears on iPad on photos transferred through Photostream (Photos app) from MacBook Pro and iPhone 6, and on same photos (and others) saved from Dropbox and Flickr. All photos display correctly on the MacBook Pro and iPhone 6.

It seems I spoke too soon.  After a full day of editing and transferring .jpgs to my iPad, the short horizontal lines on one edge of the photo have appeared in two of my images .  All the affected images that had already been on my iPad just prior to my 9.3.3 update display correctly now, but apparently something in the process of transferring photos to the iPad introduces the artifact problem.

There are a few threads here regarding this issue.  I've been adding my continued observations on this thread if interested:
