Q: Delete iPhoto file after migration to Photos?

I'm running MacBook Pro Retina w/ solid state memory 251 GB, purchased 2013.  iPhoto library has migrated to Photos but is taking 62GB memory. What do I lose if I delete the iPhoto Library.migratedphotolibrary file?

MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2012), OS X El Capitan (10.11.5), 13 gb memory available of 251 total

If you checked and it very thing migrated to Photos correctly, you can delete the IPhoto Library file.

Be aware, however, that you will regain just a small portion of that storage space. That's because the way it works is that both Libraries actually point to the same files on your drive. The image files are not being duplicated.

All you lose is the ability to go back to the iPhoto library if you need it to fix problems or are unhappy with Photos 0 all you gain is a tiny bit of disk storage - generally it is best to keep the iPhoto library for a few months to be sure but you can safely delete it if you choose to
