With my limited testing, I don't seem to see anything that would restrict it only to xlsx files unless that is what I search for.

I like using keyboard shortcuts, but it seems I have to use the cursor to hit search, even when it autocompletes what I am typing with the name of the doc I am looking for. Although, maybe if I hit the right arrow, it selects it. Or is there another way to go about that?

It'll show up in spotlight, but as I mentioned, I hate the new spotlight and would rather use the finder. When I select "show all in finder" it shows me only excel files. I do not know what a search token is. Here is a screen shot of the finder window:
