Q: My iPhone 6s home button is really hot and the device won't turn on

i have had my phone since Friday, and this morning when I woke up the home button was burning hot and the screen is just black. I went to bed with it working just fine last night, plugged it in to charge, and now it won't work. Nothing else is hot, not even the charging port, just the home button is on fire. I have had the phone unplugged for an hour and the button is still on fire.  I had just made the choice to switch from a Samsung to this iPhone and need to say it makes me slightly regret my choice because I have always known that apple products have tons of issues. I an not happy that I have had this phone for less than 5 days and this is happening. Anyways, is there anything i can do to fix it without having to go into the apple storeI did not finish setting up my iCloud, so to lose all of information because of a defective phone will not make me happy.

    First off, thanks for your suggestion.  I had never thought of that.  It's just that sometimes he gets bored playing with my loaded handgun and boxcutter so he looks for other things to put in his mouth.

     

    Secondly, I'm not sure what the price has to do with anything.  I could care less about the value of the phone.  The point was that I'm concerned for my son's safety.

    Thanks for the advice.  Actually I did take to apple, and the tech that I spoke to said he's encountered this problem pretty regularly.  He stated it's a software glitch that causes the fingerprint sensor to get into an endless loop trying to scan a fingerprint that isn't there.  He stated that a soft reset is all that is needed, but thanks for the needlessly snarky reply. 

     

    P.S. - It just got to 19 pages so maybe that will warrant a full scale federal investigation.

    Both My husband and I have to same phone - purchased at the same time....My phone has had issues from day 1 - his phone - none - This hot home button and phone turning off and turning back on - is the latest issue and holding the home and power key worked but this issue needs to be addressed by Apple because it is very strange and there should be a reason for it occurring.

    One of your phones was defective. One wasn't. As soon as phone starts having hardware issues, you need to take it to Apple.

    because that is what we all do! That question is more hypothetical in regards to 19 pages of Apple ignorance if one of those things actually hurts someone. But that is what Apple support Foren are all about. You have that occasional "fanboy" that tells you what not to do and that it is all your fault because you are doing it all wrong, You have that occasional helper that can actually express of what to do and how to fix it. You ave the Know it all who is too bored to explain anything to you, frequently one of the same with the fanboy. And you have entire Apple chugging away on their path, breaking things that worked before, don't care if anything stays compatible and down to the Genius Bar will always talk down to you. And even if that first iPhone catches on fire or burns that house down, it will be our fault and a meaningless settlement will be paid out.

    Same thing. iPhone 6s got hot while the app on screen did not go into standby. Battery went from 80% to 40% in about 5 mins. Then first the phone lost it's fingerprints that I had fed into it. When I tried to open the id-touch setting to set it up, the phone crashed. A black screen was all I had.

     

    After a forced restart it worked for a while to loose the fingerprints again and crash again and black screen again and forced restart again en all happened over and over again. For 2 or 3 times. Then the id touch could not be set up anymore.

     

    Tried to ask Apple care. They never heard of it..... I was advised to re-install iOS, which i had be doing twice by then. But o.k. for the love of your iPhone you are willing to do a lot. So by now I did that around 3 times. Complete restores. But the phone did (not yet) get hot anymore and id touch can't be set up. And when I try it states:

     

    FAILURE! PLEASE TRY AGAIN!

     

    Hahahahahahhahahah no thank you I will bring the phone back for repair or something else. It is brand new!

    This just happened to me with my ATT iPhone 6S 64gb with iOS 9.3.2! I looked at the time on my phone and put it in my purse. When I got to my office I pulled my phone out to check the time again and the weather and my phone had a blazing hot home button and black screen. I did the dual button reset and it started up again and the heat died down. This is super concerning since I use all Apple accessories and I got the phone in November (2015). The closest Apple Store is five hours away in Portland.... I certainly hope this does not keep happening. I'm going to make sure everything is backed up on iTunes the minute I get home!

    You should call or mail apple or your supplier of the phone. Make sure you get a reply from them so you can prove that you informed them before your guarantee is done. I don't know if it is possible to chat with them but just make sure that you have proof that you informed them!!! This is a most concerning 'feature' of the iPhone.....

    I have a 6s+ 128gb that went from working fine to suddenly not responding.  Won't power up at all and the home button is very warm.  I'm using the Apple 10w charger (have two, tried both and both charge the iPad Pro just fine) and tried several apple charge cables including a brand new one.  My hypothesis is some sort of problem near the charging port.  The fact it will not even attempt to power on and the home button is very warm leads me to believe it's shorting out at some level.  The phone has been very well taken care of, never dropped or exposed to moisture and I've taken great care not to stress the port while charging.  Luckily my phone is still under manufactures warranty but research leads me to believe this is not an uncommon defect with this phone and warrants serious concern.  What if this happened outside of warranty?  Will Apple acknowledge a defect of this nature or is everybody on their own?  $949 is nothing to snieze at.

    I have a 6 64GB and I've had it for almost 2 years. It's running the latest iOS and this has happened three times now. But it's not just my home button that gets hot, it's the entire phone! It gets super hot too, not just a little hot!  I don't think this is a new problem related solely to the 6's. My previous phone was a 5 and it got so hot the battery warped and I had to replace it. The first time my 6 overheated I was surfing Facebook, the next I was listening to Spotify and the most recent I was using Waze. Hard reboots have worked every time so far. You would think after 19 pages of posts regarding this issue Apple would address this before it becomes a safety hazard!!!

    I bought my phone yesterday (27 May 2016). Got it home and started the back up process. My new phone kept restarting itself...the black apple symbol with the white background. This happened several times while I was backing everything up and syncing my new phone. I left it off the charger for the night. I turned in on this morning used it for a bit and then locked it. Upon trying to use it the home button was very hot and the phone would not come on. I figured I would Google it to see if this was a recurring issue with the iPhone and I found this thread. Did the home/power 10 second hold reset and it seems like everything is working now. Hopefully I won't have any further issues. Get it together Apple!

    Have had my iPhone 6S 64gb for about 8 days and this just happened to me and I literally freaked out considering I'm going on a long trip soon and thought my iPhone somehow fried. I don't care what an Apple employee tells you ANY part of the phone getting that hot is NOT GOOD at all.

     

    I'm hoping to get it replaced at an Apple store during my trip because that's a bad sign after just 8 days when I had a 6 Plus a year and a half and never had that issue once.

    Not the person you responded to but why are you judging someone for doing what they want with a device they used their own money on? Plus doesn't Apple love to tout how much Children love their devices and how they're used in schools?

    Because I have opinions and some common sense. Small children also think antifreeze tastes good and putting putting pebbles up their nostrils is fun. Should we let them do that, too? You're average 1 ½ year old is not considered a school aged child.

     

    My opinions are not necessarily the same as Apple's. And, even if Apple had an ad where toddlers were left unsupervised with iPhones, that wouldn't mean parents should construe that as parenting advice.

    iPhone 6s 128gb. This happened to me this morning. When I set my alarm at 10pm last night my phone was fine and charged to about 80%. I woke up at 7:15am (I am supposed to be at work at 7:30 mind you. Thank goodness I get iMessage my boss through my iPad) to no alarm and my phone not working. My home button was very warm to the touch. I tried to reset it by holding the side button down & home button at least 50 times. I went to the AT&T store and of course it turned on for them doing exactly what I did. AT that point my battery was at 12%. I bought my phone on 1/1/16. Not even 6 months old. Now I have to go to the Apple store to see what and if there is a problem. From reading these other posts I am assuming they will find nothing wrong with it. I am still making payments on this thing. I am not a happy girl.
