Q: Safari persists reloading web pages

After a upgrade of Safari 2016 march 22 (and also the security upgrade), some web pages are repeating to load until stopping with a alert (Dutch): 'Deze webpagina is opnieuw geladen vanwege een probleem' (English, but maybe the official text is different: This web page has been reloaded because of a problem.

This problem is followed bij a rapport for Apple.

- Other browsers don't have this problem

- On my other Mac (Macbook Pro, El Capitane): no problems

- after emptying cash, history, and so on, and all other advices I found on the web, the problem doesn't disappear

- turning off Java the web page is loaded (but without the facilities of Java of course)

- problems with Java or Webkit?

- (re-)installing the latest Java for OS X 10.9.5 didn't help

I think to have upgraded by a BUG instead by a upgrade. The solution is to use Google Chrome, but I like(d) Safari because of stability ;-)

The best solution is Apple repairs the upgrade with another upgrade... But does Apple know this problem, I don't see a possibility to reach them.

Maybe someone recognizes this problem and can tell me what to do.

Thanks to Eric Root and Jpwdesign for the response! I appreciate this very much! I did what you explained (I knew the miracolous 'SHIFT' key from '90s with System 7...), and opening Safari after starting in the safe mode, the mentioned web pages indeed did load completely, however: Safari was very shaky and flashy, not only the content but also scroll bar. Restarting my Mac resulted in the disappointing same problem as before. Nothing has changed. No autocorrection at all!

Also I followed Apples advice to start Safari without internet plugins & add on's from the Libraries and set them back one by one to trace the problem causer, but without the plugins Safari had the same problem (also after restarting Safari).

I prefer not to upgrade to Yosemite because I still use Adobe CS5.5 and I am afraid I then must upgrade this expensive apps.

You are welcome. Did you try a new account and restarting the computer in the Safe Mode?

    Hi Eric,

I tried  a lot, so many that I surrender ;-) After a pauze - life is more than my computer - after my endless attempts to resolve the problem mentioned above I'm no more 'in the flow' and until the next upgrade I'll use Google Chrome, that works fine without any problems. By the way: not all web pages show this problem, only some (using particular Java or Webkit? Generally: Java works fine).

More and more I'm convinced my computer and software are OK, and that the problem is caused by the last upgrade from Apple.

Maybe I've to upgrade to Yosemite/El Capitan, but I'm afraid my CS5.5 is not compatible. Using Chrome is less a disaster than not using CS5.5 ...

Thanks to you (and to all other people) for help and advices!

Hello everybody having tried to help me: Apple has the the resolution. After the security update and safari update May 16th everything is working fine! So I think the problems were caused by a bug. For me it was the first bug I had from about 1992 (I started with a Mac IISi), maybe because I am normally very slow with upgrading...

Oh no!!!! The problem doesn't exist anymore at some web sites, but still exists at several other web pages... This last update isn't at all the solution from Apple, I was too optimistic about Apples updates and I am very disappointed.  After spending hours and hours to solve the problem on my own computer I now give up... So I have to set Google Chrome as my standard browser again... :-(

I just posted this to another thread, almost exactly like this one:

Actually I have just had the same problem, and have found a security software recommended by banks in the UK has been causing it - I submitted this problem report to Trusteer, who distribute Rapport:

Rapport is causing safari pages to reload unsuccessfully with the recurring message “A problem occurred with this web page so it was reloaded“. This happened right after updating OS X to 10.11.6 Beta (15G7a)

I disabled it in system preferences and the page zapping, heating, and battery drain from the processor going hot trying to reload pages, have all stopped.

I can't say this will work for anyone else, but it has proved to be the fix for me...
