Q: FCP7 - best setting to import Skype Interview Quicktimes

Hello!  I'm going to edit about 2 hours worth of Skype interviews in FCP7 and am wondering what the best workflow is.

1.  Should I compress the Quicktimes first, and if so what setting is best?

2.  What setting should I set my sequence to?

I'm not a professional editor and always appreciate the clear directions this forum offers, so thank you in advance.

What are the properties of the source files currently? How was it recorded? Does it have a variable frame rate?

Final Cut Pro 7 was designed to work best (correctly) with the broadcast standard codecs, frame sizes and frame rates that were current 6 years ago.

You will have the smoothest edit with the least surprises if you convert your source footage to a standard size/frame rate/frame size like

    ProRes 422 1920x1080 @ 29.97P.

Once you have created your master file in FCP7, you can then create all the deliverable versions you need from it.
