Perhaps this issue is just a regional thing then I'm in Brazil and I've checked on other peoples Apple Tv's here and they have the same issues. The videos work when selected but but no cover photos which just makes it a little annoying.

It's possible (likely?) that Apple is no longer interested in maintaining ATV 3, but you can always try reporting it to them via this link http://www.apple.com/feedback/
Otherwise, it never hurts to reset it. Just pull the power cord for about 30 seconds.
