Q: 1333 RAM in a 1066 MacBook?
Hey all,
Last week I got 8GB 1333 Elpida RAM from a friend to upgrade the 2GB 1066 in my 2010 white MB. However, when I put it in, the computer only beeps with the sleep light flashing (RAM error I would think). I saw on several other places that RAM will down clock to your bus speed, and the RAM is definitely not faulty (I pulled it from said friend's 2009 13" MBP with a newly smashed screen, and there it had worked perfectly well for a while). Anyone know what's going on or how to fix it?
Thanks!
MacBook, OS X El Capitan (10.11.4), Mid 2010

There are occasions where higher frequency RAM will be down clocked when installed in a Mac designed for lower frequency RAM, but that is NOT always the case. Apparently in your situation you will have to install exactly what Apple has designed to be used in your Mac or it may be that the RAM you are trying to install is a brand that Macs simply reject. The latter has happened.
The best sources of Mac compatible RAM are OWC and Crucial.
Ciao.
