Q: Can I connect an old 20" Apple Cinema Display to a new 12" macbook? If so what adaptor would I need?

My gf has a new macbook 12" and I was wondering if it would be worthwhile getting a second hand 20" apple cinema display for her to use as extra workspace. Is this possible with the new USB-C jack? If so what adaptor is needed?  Cheers!
