Q: Gas Mileage Template Gone

When I originally download Numbers for the iPad a couple of years ago, there was a template to track gas mileage. I used it often for trips.

The template filled in the last mileage and did other calculations for each entry.

Several months ago, I could not get into Numbers because it kept saying it was ‘waiting’. Don’t know what it was waiting for, so I researched that on line. Others had the same problem. I ended up downloading Numbers onto the iPad again, however the latest version did not have that same template. Nothing even close.

Then while looking for an answer to my question today , I found this forum response when a newbie asked a question about a mileage template: “Gas mileage is just miles traveled/gal. of gas used. One hardly needs a template for that.” True, but that was not an appropriate answer, especially since the template had much more than that simple calculation.

Worse yet, I cannot find my spreadsheets on the iPad after the ‘new’ installation.

I looked on my iMac and MacBookPro  for copies that I thought I had saved. Nothing.

Then, I wondered if they had the same file extension on the iPad [.numbers].

On the iPad, I generated a test spreadsheet from the blank template.

Attached the iPad to the iMac and used iTunes to look at application data.

Nothing under Numbers!  But, I just created it. I can see it on the iPad. Exited iTunes and unplugged the iPad then went through the same process again.

What  happened to my spreadsheets on the iPad after the redownload?

Why can’t I see the test spreadsheet I just created?

Is the file extension .numbers?

I do not use the cloud for backups. Those server farms must use beaucoup energy.

Thanks for your help.

PS

I can make my own in Numbers, but I just want to know what is going on .

iPad, null

    Hi AuntFrahn,

I ended up downloading Numbers onto the iPad again

Did you also update Numbers on the MacBook Pro?

What version of Numbers, what version of the operating system, and what machine is giving this problem (MacBook Pro or iPad, or both?)

    Please update your profile:

    Ian,

    I just updated my products.

If I got a message on the MacBook Pro or iMac that there were updates, then I would have updated Numbers.

OS recently upgraded on Macbook Pro and iMac to Mavericks 10.9.5

Still waiting to be sure my genealogy apps will work on El Capitan. I have read that Mavericks was more stable and/or better than Yosemite.

    But, that's another issue.

The Numbers problem is with the iPad that had that great vehicle template. It's gone now and as I noted, all of my spreadsheets are gone.

I've looked at my sent email from the iPad to see if I sent any of the spreadsheets to either the iMac or MacBook Pro. Nothing.

Really puzzles me that I thought that I had uploaded my spreadsheets to one or the other through iTunes.

    Thanks for your help,

    Fran

    Hi Fran,

Neither Numbers '09 nor Numbers 3 has a gas mileage template. (This is on Numbers for Mac). I don't know about iPad.

    Regards,

    Ian.

    Ian,

This is true. That is why I thrilled with the template on the iPad.

Now, it appears that the templates on the iPad are the same as the iMac and MacBook Pro.

    Very disappointing.

Any idea why all my spreadsheets got clobbered when I had to redownload my purchase on the iPad?

    Thanks for your help,

    Fran

    Hi Fran,

I might be best to start a new discussion in the iPad forum.

    Using iPad

Give it a title that tells the problem (the gas mileage template is no longer your main concern).

Say what you did and what happened.

    Regards,

    Ian.
