Jun 26, 2016 12:03 PM in response to AKA.AKby Ph-jmed,It's quite simple.
1. Turn off itune
2. Go to control panel > administrative tools > Computer management > device manager OR you can simply type device manager in your start button
3. Click portable devices in that list,( You will see apple iphone with a yellow triangle)
4. Right click it and hit "uninstall" (It will remove the iphone device)
5. At the top where it says "action" next to the file, Click it
6. Click "scan for hardware changes"
Voila...it is fixed. Your iphone will pop up.

Jul 1, 2016 11:55 AM in response to AKA.AKby Dr-Detroit,I had the same problem that my iPhone 6 plus would not show up in explorer like it used to, so that I could backup my photos.
My iPhone appeared in the devices in Windows 7 pro but appeared under the grouping undefined. I tried updating the driver and Windows said the best driver for my device was installed. The first answer said that enabling the device fixed the problem, so I disabled my device, then enabled it. It appeared in explorer immediately.

Jul 9, 2016 9:28 AM in response to Briansyddallby laurahzy,Ah! Thank you so much for posting this. I tried all the other solutions and spent days trying to get my phone to show up on my computer. Until I saw this post. Then I tried iCloud and didn't actually have much luck with that either. So I gave up on that route and am using Google Drive instead. It works like a dream.

Aug 4, 2016 6:54 AM in response to accountjustforthisby TCaron,This helped me out. New computer with only 3.0 USB. Hooked it to an older computer with 2.0 and it picked it right up. Thanks a million.

Aug 9, 2016 6:55 PM in response to tanveerpk309by RizJuku,This method works! Did the troubleshoot one before but did not work. Then I tried the suggestion above by opening Devices and Printer, right-clicked Apple Mobile USB Driver under Unspecified, then unplugged and plugged the phone while the right-click balloon is showing and voila, suddenly there's an additional item named Apple Iphone beside it. Right clicked it, clicked Explore, and all is good as new, even in My Computer it's showing up.
I really need to start thinking that computers are just not just mindless machines, but they also have "ups and downs" too and sometimes needed a little prod to get it back in line again hahaha thanks.

Aug 11, 2016 12:18 PM in response to AKA.AKby MWATripleB,Are there any pictures in your "Photos" gallery? If not, then take a picture of anything. Unplug your iPhone from your PC and plug it back into the PC. You should see your device right there.
Your PC doesn't show your iPhone because there's nothing there that it can access (compatability) and it looks like there's a USB cable plugged in with nothing attached on the other end. The PC has access to pictures and videos; that's all.
Apple Support gave me no help with this and I scoured the Internet to figure this out and finally found someone on YouTube who'd discovered the answer. I really hope this helps.

Sep 4, 2016 8:04 AM in response to AKA.AKby Machistmo,When you open iTunes and go to the phone, at the bottom there is a selection X Automatically Sync when this iPhone is connected. Un-check this option and confirm you want to apply the settings. Close iTunes and then reconnect the phone. Windows should pop up and ask what you want to do when the phone is connected and you can select - Open in Explorer there.

Sep 4, 2016 8:37 AM in response to Machistmoby Lawrence Finch,The Automatic Sync has nothing to do with an iPhone appearing in Windows Explorer. iPhones are not treated as storage devices except for the camera roll. If there are images in the camera roll the phone will appear in Windows Explorer; if there are no images then it will not, it will only appear in iTunes. And even when it appears all you can do is copy images from the camera roll to your computer.

Sep 4, 2016 8:46 AM in response to Lawrence Finchby Machistmo,This just worked for me - The device would not install properly or show in Explorer in Windows 10 to save my mortal soul.
Removing the sync automatically when connected and applying that option, closing iTunes and reconnecting the phone worked perfectly. After this point connecting the phone no longer resulted in iTunes opening automatically but rather Windows Prompt was restored asking what I wanted to do when the device was connected. You could probably set default behavior in Control Panel as well but this worked for me.
Don't know what to tell you. It worked and I posted it so that others might try it. That was exactly what I wanted to do - move images directly to a folder for editing purposes.
