Q: MacPro4,1 CD Doors on Chassis won't Open/Close

May 27 2016

I just bought a Mac Pro 4,1 (Early 2009) / 2.66 Ghz Quad Core Intel Xeon.  It works perfectly but I’ve got a problem with my dual front panel drop down CD doors on the main chassis.  Neither one will open when I hit the eject button on the keyboard.  I have to help it down with the tip of a pen to get it to open and then the CD reader tray comes out and when the CD feeds into the reader, I again have to help the door to close.   I removed the CD enclosure from the chassis to get a better look as to what was happening. It appears that the plastic frame housing which allows the doors to open or close, is somehow not seated properly, misaligned.   My next thought was to remove it and inspect it more closely to see what exactly was wrong. I only saw one screw holding it in. I removed the screw but the entire plastic frame does not want to move at all, up, down sideways etc.   How do you get the darn thing out of there??  I’ve looked on youtube and can’t find any hints. I’m not even sure what you would call the plastic part that mounts to the front chassis.

i think there's a screw at the front that one could loosen which might help you out a bit. I had the same problem with mine as you had with yours. I removed my doors on their frame but I don't think I'll be able to get 'em back in soon.  (i did have to remove the optical cage entirely to get at it) For me, there were 2 "lips"  in the front panel (with all the holes in it. )Each lip can be found a bit under the optical cage at the very front of the Mac Pro's case. Perhaps they are bent? I can't really recommend anything to you because this is the first time I've ever had this happen. so I have 2 doors on a frame, the metal pieces covering each door and absolutlely no idea about how to fix 'em or get 'em back in there again.... perhaps ifixit. I know there's  a service guide out there somewhere but where?

    that I don't know....

sorry I couldn't be of more help to you
