Q: App Store updates broken

I cannot update certain software. Safari 8.0.4 is an example. The progress bar flashes quickly then nothing else happens. The update never goes though. In the past when this has happened I have downloaded a stand alone installer. Safari 8.0.4 is unavailable.

I've tried removing caches and temp files associated with the store to no avail.

any ideas?

ps iPhoto update worked fine

Be very careful with these instructions. I tried them on El Capitan and now my iMac won't reboot. It gets stuck at the boot screen. I'm now recovering from Time Machine.

Those instructions were posted for someone else more than a year ago, and they're unsuitable for El Capitan. If you need help with a problem of your own, I suggest you start your own thread. You'll have the same chance as anyone else of getting a useful reponse.

This is a public forum, so anybody can read these instructions and might try them: that's the whole point of using a public discussion board. If the solution is wrong, or in this case dangerous given that most people are now on a new OS version, I thought it was a good idea to post a warning about it to avoid that other people end up with a non functional system. No reason to get all defensive about it.
