Q: Please help...  GiO not working properly with Mainstage.  GiO lights errors, and Gio Disconnected errors.

I have a gig ion 11/22, and I am DESPERATE TO FIX THIS....

Mainstage 3

Brand new Macbook air

Brand new Apogee Gio

I've tried multiple reloads of the software

2 macbook air 13"

and 6 GiOs.

These things aren't talking to each other.

I bought the laptop SOLELY to run mainstage.  No other garbage is cluttering the box.

I have 1 concert file, with 50 songs (Patches)

Each patch has a few pedals configured on the layout screen, which are linked to the Pedalboard in Mainstage for various effects

AT MOST, I have 1-2 channel strips PER PATCH...  Nothing seriously tasking on the CPU.

THe CPU meter shows <20% capacity, always.  Usually <10%

A few of the patches have a channel strip with a 3 second .wav file (audio channel strip)  NOTHING HUGE AT ALL.

Problems scenarios:

1.  MAINSTAGE FREEZES ON LOAD = 3% of the time....

Mainstage freezes at starup..  Jams on the "loading MIDI" message.  happens 3% of the time.

2. MAINSTAGE reports "GiO has been disconnected" = 100% of the time...

I can sometimes play for 1 hour, no issues.... then all of the sudden, I hit a Gio Button, and i get the "Gio has been disconnected" message. I cannot play a gig, without this failing...    I have to REBOOT mainstage to get the stuff talking again, sometimes I have to RESET the Gio too (by holding a button and pulling/attaching the USB)  Sometimes Mainstage reconnects itself to Gio, most times I have to reboot everything.

3.  GiO LIGHTS MALFUNCTIONING. = 80% of the time.

Sometimes while I'm playing, the lights on the Gio fail to cycle when I press the buttons...  The lights on the MAINSTAGE screen layout behaive correctly, and the audio output is modified correctly when the buttons are pushed.... but the Gio foot switch lights fail to cycle.  For a particular song/patch, sometimes they work, other times they wont.

I've had Apogee tech support working on this to no avail.

They told me to unplug other usb devices.

Try new cables.

Increase the buffer size to 256 from 128 (which i did, but the latency/delay is unacceptable, and the problem still persisted anyway.)

    Ryan,

Apples' OS X 10.9.2 software update did not resolve the intermittent midi or lights syncing issues with the Gio for me.

OS X 10.9.3 software update is supposed to be released by Apple within a week or two.  Apple's documentation says there are fixes for 'audio' but doesn't really specify what it audio issues it is supposed to fix.   I will try it out and test the Gio again once that OS X 10.9.3 is released and report back.

Just spent a week with a very similar issue - Mainstage would lose the connection with my Gio intermittently.  And... in addition to not passing audio for 10-12 seconds as the Gio reset itself, one out of 5 times it would produce a loud beep through the PA before Mainstage could see it again. Currently on tour overseas with this as my primary guitar rig. Ugh.

Anyway, I have an early 2011 MBP, with 16GB of RAM, running the latest version of Mainstage, latest drivers for the Gio (2011) and OSX 10.11.3 (El Capitan). After trying about everything I saw mentioned in any forum anywhere that mentioned Mainstage or the Gio, I did this:

Removed all MIDI related device control panels and software for MIDI devices no longer in use or attached

Launched the Audio MIDI Setup utility - Window > Show MIDI Studio, and deleted any devices no longer in use or or attached.

Launched Mainstage, selected Preferences, and changed the Hot Plug behavior setting to "Automatically Use Device" from "Alert Me".

No idea which thing may have done it, but after that, no more connection issues. Working perfectly.
Hopefully that will help someone else.

    Hey SuperRockStar,

I'm a guitarist/bassist who's a newbie to MainStage3. Saw your responses to a few posts and was wondering if you could help me out too.

Right now I'm using an Apogee JAM to get my guitar into MainStage...would you recommend the Apogee GiO as an essential piece of equipment?

Do you have any suggestions about an expression pedal/MIDI footswitch pedal as alternative to the GiO?

Mainly using MS3 as live guitar rig in the rehearsal studio...no live shows yet.

Appreciate any help you can pass along.

    Thanks,
