Q: can't boot to Mac after resizing bootcamp partition using disk management.

Hello guys.

I have a 13-inch MacBook Pro 2012 (9.2) With OSX 10.9 Running. Core I5, 4GB of ram, and a 500 Gb hard disk.

I used Bootcamp to install windows 8.1 which was successful, but I wanted another partition to store data so I Cut 100 GB of the Bootcamp partition. and all was well (The recovery partition became visible) until I restarted and I couldn't boot either from Mac or Windows and when you Hold alt on startup only windows show but it always ends up with an error and restart.

I Suspected that the problem is within the boot code.I Used a bootable Mac Osx installer to get into disk utility and it shows Macintosh HD and under that
Disk01
Disk02

Disk03

and I can't do anything no verification or partitioning is available. I reset NVRAM and I ran FSCK as suggested by some article. and nothing works.

No disk recovery is available.

Is there any possible way to fix the situation without losing data. ??

I searched the community before posting the question and I find a similar one but The windows side is the one that didn't boot.

Repairing Boot Camp after creating new partition

After your comment, I tried different keywords until I landed on a solution but it says I have to format all the data and start over. But if you can tell me how to fix that through command line it's really what I need.

From Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal, please post the output of

    diskutil list

    diskutil cs llist

sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

    sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

The "sudo" commands require your password, when booted normally in OSX, but "sudo" can be dropped when in Internet Recovery.

Any manipulation of the partitions using Windows Disk Management converts the disk to an MBR disk, from which OSX will not boot. Resizing the partition clobbered your Windows, so you can only get into Internet Recovery.

In the last command, there is no space between "/dev" and "/disk0". Your disk became a Windows LDM which prevents OSX from booting.

Please install OSX on an external disk - How to install OS X on an external drive connected to your Mac - Apple Support - and upgrade it, if necessary, to match the current version of OSX on the internal disk. Download GPT Fdisk - https://sourceforge.net/projects/gptfdisk/ - and install it on the external disk after the OSX versions are matched and boot from it.

We will need to convert the LDM disk back to GPT.

This is the terminal output that I missed last night.

    code.JPG

I installed a new Mac OSX 10.9 on the external drive and it matched the one on my laptop. and I installed GPT fdisk as you told me. Now It's time to convert the LDM to GPT. Waiting for your instructions. and by the way, I can't see the internal hard disk from the mac on the external hard drive. I Don't know if I'm supposed to see it or not but I thought I should tell you.

Can you post the output of the following terminal commands?

    diskutil  list

    diskutil cs list

    sudo gdisk -l /dev/disk0

If Gdisk prompts about MBR or GPT selection, please use GPT.
