Q: iBooks problems. Preview data interruption/how to get iBooks on iPad without publishing.

I'm very new to Apple products in general. I started a new job putting together an iBook in iBooks Author. I keep getting a preview data interruption error. I then close the app out and reopen it to see my proof there and in good condition. I'm just wondering why I get the error. On another note, I can't seem to upload the iBook to the iPad. I can preview it but it isn't always the most recent version of my iBook. I don't want to publish this book but I need it on 45 new iPads. If I go in through iTunes I can sync the iBook. It loads on the iPad, finishes, dissapears for a second then brings up an older version of my iBook. Any information at all would be very helpful.

I cannot assist with the preview data interruption error. Hopefully another person has some ideas to assist.

I save my iBooks to Dropbox (or other 'cloud' service) or email them to my iPad. Of course using that method you have no automatic sync and you have to keep track of which versions of your iBooks you have stored on your iPad - I would always delete the iBook on my iPad before opening a new version of it from my Dropbox, email etc.

The iBooks appearing as older versions of your books might be due to difficulties with their 'internal' ID. Try going to File > Reset for iBooks Store... before saving the latest version of your iBook.

I never thought about the dropbox idea, I tried it out but can't seem to get the file off of dropbox right now. From what I've read it seems like the preview data interruption is from recent updates, or that's what people are saying on the internet. Anyway thanks for your help!

I've had some success in the past with the 'Reset for iBooks Store…' option in the 'File' menu as a way to force a fresh version of the iBook.

It seemed to help with missing cover images, incorrect tables of contents, changes not reflexed in the exported file, etc.

The resulting file [ created with File > Export… ] can then be transferred to the iPad via iTunes, Dropbox, Box, Google Drive, or any of the other file transfer applications that support the 'Open in iBooks…' share sheet extension.
