I understand that you are trying to back up your iPhone to your computer but are unable to because of some recent damage. Let's see if we can get it sorted out.
Now if you can't unlock your iPhone by Touch ID or entering in the passcode, then you will not be able to use iTunes to back it up. If you have iCloud enabled, all you would need to do is to make sure that you are connected to Wi-Fi and to a power source for a backup to take place. To see when the last backup was completed through iTunes, you can open up iTunes Preferences and look in the Device tab to see a list of backups and when the last one was completed. Look at the next article below for more details.

Now if you went the iCloud route, you can find out when the last backup took place. On your Mac go to System Preferences > iCloud > Manage > Backups and it will list all backups made and timestamp for each device. Look to the last article for more details.
