Q: Updating iPhoto

Hello Support Community

Checked out a few searches and this issue has come up, but only with users of second hand Macs.

I am the first owner of this Mac and the software was included.

This error appears everytime I try update iPhoto?

'This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled.'

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

9.6.1 is the probably the last iteration of iPhoto

Drag the current app to the trash or an external drive but do not delete it or empty the trash

Then go to the Purchased tab on the Mac App Store and download 9.6.1 from there

Remember - even though the apps came with the computer - you have to still "activate and purchase" them (for free)

Moved it to the Trash and now the entire iPhoto app has disappeared!

Tried to reinstall it on the app store but can seem to find it there?

Have multiple user profiles and the iPhoto app it still on the other profile ? still won't update on that profile?

The only version compatible with El Capitan, as ManSinha has pointed out, 9.6.1. With your current version in the Trash bin go to the App Store, sign in with the Apple ID that was used to purchase the Mac and look under the Purchased section for iPhoto.  If it's there it should be 9.6.1.

Otherwise you should begin using the new Photos app that came with El Capitan because  iPhoto is no longer supported by Apple or by the Apple Print Products Store.  It's on it's death bed and soon will not be compatible with the system.

Photos has much better editing capabilities. These user tips from Photos for Mac will help you in your transition from iPhoto to Photos:

Apple stopped the development of iPhoto more than a year ago. When Yosemite with the new Photos for Mac has been released, Photos has been removed from the AppStore. Software update does not work for iPhoto any longer at all. All warnings about the update you are receiving from the AppStore are misleading. The Updates tab simply does not work any longer.  You can only reinstall Photos from the AppStore, and only, if you already own an AppStore version of iPhoto. The boxed iLife versions cannot be updated any longer.  Reinstalling will install iPhoto 9.6.1, because that is the current version.  But if iPhoto is not in your Purchases history at the AppStore, it is too late to update to version 9.6.1.
