It sounds like you've set iPhoto to start at login. If you don't want this, Ctrl-click on the iPhoto icon in your dock, the choose 'Options' from the pop-up menu. One of these options is 'Open at Login'.

If it's checked, that's why iPhoto is loading. Just select the menu to uncheck the option and you should be set.

I Can't find options on the drop down tab I've got preferences.  I'm writing this on my iPad with the iMac open on iPhoto.  There is nothing to tick to say don't open at startup. Thank you for reading my question and replying.

    Greetings.

Wondering if you already checked in System Preferences, in your user account. In the right-hand side there will be an option for "Login items". If iPhoto is there, all you have to do is select it and click the minus button on the bottom left.

    Hope it helps.
