Q: Cannot find most recent fcpx project?

I cannot find the most recent project I have been working on in FCPX?

I have done a few sessions, did not have any issues saving or crashing, but for some reason the project is just not listed?

What can I do to try and search for this project?

All my projects are in a single library on an external drive

I clone that drive recently using SuperDuper, just a routine "smart" backup, I think the disappearing project happened after this last backup a the clone.

I dont see any orphaned projects in my user folder?

Any thoughts greatly appreciated. I can rebuild it fairly easily, but I am perplexed as to what might have happened.

Somtimes you can be editing a clip that was opened in the Timeline?

Have a scratch around to see if that happened.

Go into your Users>Home>Movies folder and there is Final Cut Backups.

Look for your Library that contains the Project in there.

I found a backup that includes the project file. But when I open it it says it cannot find the original library and prompts to save and start a new one.

I think this has something to do with my External HDD and the Cloned backup version. They were both mounting and I expect there was some confusion in FCPX.

I said OK to the open and save prompt and the backup library opened with "missing file" yellow triangles on all the media

Whats the best thing to do now that I have a backup file to get everything reconnected properly?

Just to make clear, what I want to do now is get advice on the smart way to use this backup of my library and reconnect it to my ext hdd where all my fcpx files are stored?

Just dont want to goof things up. I dont mind re-adding all the media the one missing project, but if I can save the edits I already did it would be great.

    TIA

Was your media copied into the original library or was it left in place when you imported?

I would unmount the backup clone.

The media was not copied, or at least when I "show package contents" on my EXT HDD I do not see the project or the files.

I have all the media I was using in a folder on my desktop

I have a backup library file that lists the project I am hoping to resurrect when I "show package contents"

I have un-mounted the clone volume backup

    What next?

That would be the place to re-connect the files to.

Part of my confusion is about how to deal with this backup file. It is only 59MB, where are my library on the HDD is 110gigs.

So, all I want from the backup file is this one project I am trying to resurrect. Do I open the backup file and then reconnect the files or do I open the backup file and export the one project or something else?

    Hope I am being clear?

If the original library is that large, you either copied the media, created Optimized, or both. Look inside the library and see what is in Original Media and Transcoded folders. In the Original Media folder re they media files or links to the external media?

The backup libraries do not contain media, which is why they are so much smaller.

I copied media the the external, I wanted a "complete" storage solution. So everything is on the external except two things:

    1. The project file of the "lost" project which only exists in the backup fiel I have and

    2. The media files associated with that project which are on my desktop

How should I get these two items, the "lost" project and the associated media files back into my main FCPX library on my external HDD?

    Henry
