Q: iPhone 6 plus intermittent unresponsive screen

So a couple days ago, my iPhone 6+ began having intermittent screen responsiveness. First time, I received a phone call and couldn't answer it because the swipe wouldn't work. I turned it off and back on with no luck. I reset it and that fixed it. That was the only issue that day. I the last few days it's becoming more frequent. Today alone I've had to reset it eight times.

What it's doing;

  • touch screen is unresponsive to touch entirely.
  • touch screen responds after a delay
  • I tap an app icon and the app two rows up opens instead.
  • from loch screen-can't answer phone calls or notifications.

Sometimes it just leave it alone and come back to it and it's fine. Sometimes I leave it alone and come back with same result and I have to reset it. Sometimes I reset it once and trying to unlock with touchscreen (because touch ID doesn't work after reset) doesn't work so I reset it twice. It has worked after the second time, so far.

The phone is in perfect condition. Never been dropped. Was updated to 8.3 the day it was released so the issue didn't arise immediately after an update.

Anyone having these issues?

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 8.3

Has anyone found a fix to this issue? My 6 plus has been having intermittent screen issues the last few weeks and got really bad these last few days. It has gotten to the point that I'm resetting my phone at least 8-10 times per day.

My boyfriend works at an apple certified retailer store, and they can't figure out why this is happening. We did a restore, checked the screen wiring and connectors, checked for water damage, checked to see if my phone was bent, and nada. I also haven't had the grey pixel issues that some of the other people on here are mentioning.

My only other option would be to send my phone to apple, which I'm really trying to avoid.

It's so annoying because I've had the phone for a little over a year and I feel like it shouldn't be having these issues.

Yes, the fix has been posted here 20 times but moderators delete to hide it from the public. Hopefully you read this post before it's also deleted. Google search iphone ic chip repair and you will discover the problem and places that will fix it for around $129. Had mine repaired a month ago and working fine now.

I had my eyesight camera replaced under recall and maybe it's just coincidence but it seems to be working now. Maybe the tech redid the connection.

I'm disappointed in Apple's business practices on this. My phone is about 18 months old. And they want me to pay $330 for a new phone to fix a known manufacturing issue. I asked if they could just repair the connection and they said no, I had to buy a new phone.

My son has my old 4S and I still have my iPad 2 and they have both been running fine for 4-5 years. That's what I expect out of a quality product.

It's a dumb business practice because I would keep buying Apple products and they would make thousands of dollars from me in the future, but I may stop buying Apple products all over $330 for a known defect.

I don't understand why Apple erased the comment I posted explaning what is happening with my iPhone 6 plus (flickering & unresponsive screen), my experience during my visit to the genius bar and the replacement/solution options I was given.

Can't I say Apple techs confirmed there's a known issue with multiple iPhone 6 plus multitouch system and that no solutions other than paying are offered?

I'm now even more disappointed, not just because I'm not getting a solution but because I'm also being censored.

    What's happening with Apple??

    Legal reasons

    1. Apple owns this website
    2. If allowed to stand, it would be legally implicit that Apple agrees with all or part of the statements
    3. Apple can do anything they want with what is, by agreement, "their copyright granted" messages = see at least a couple of sections in Apple Support Communities Use Agreement

I actually do understand why they can erase my post but... I don't  really understand why they would do that.

I'm not saying anything wrong, I'm not being disrespectful and I was not even saying bad things about Apple, I was just telling my experience with an iPhone 6+ issue and my experience and facts on the genius bar.

We all may know the rules of poker, but when we play at someone's house, they may have "house rules" for that night - like "deuces are wild" on every hand = same deal = Apple Support Communities Use Agreement

My post was removed as it provided the solutions with specific names, so I'll attempt to modify it.

There are three "semi-permanent" options right now.  I put that in quotes because there is a small chance that your replacement has the same issue or the issue develops again in a year or so after being repaired:

a)Take it to Apple, hope the Genius has seen the issue before, and hope the store has a policy of replacing phones out of warranty.  Usually, you're better off with a different Apple store if you fail, but I don't have enough data to know if it's a Genius-by-Genius basis or an Apple store policy.  I imagine out of warranty replacements are exceptions.  You can also pay the $329 out of warranty replacement fee.

b)Hope that Apple determines that this is a major issue like with the iPhone 5 lock button out of warranty replacement service.

    c)Pay a 3rd-party repair service(not recommended).

I have about 10 phones currently with this issue that I'll get fixed soon as I won't wait around for the recall in a few months.  Note that the gray bars are not necessary, and this issue does affect the iPhone 6 although I have never seen the gray bars on an iPhone 6.  I don't know why this is as the A8 CPU/GPU is a bit further away.

I'm not allowed to speculate on the issue here for fear that my post will be removed, but it's obviously [removed] and [removed] that are the direct causes of the issue.  For whatever reason(maybe size is different), it's far more common in the 6 Pus.

For Apple mods:  This is not a very common issue and only affects a few users here.  Apple's products are 99% reliable and the highest of any tech company.

I had this issue start last week, which of course is conveniently 10 days after the year warranty was up. I found that hitting the back of the phone on your hand corrects mine for a few hours. Pressing on the middle of the touch screen and putting force on the battery doesn't sound good to me. The nearest Apple store is an hour and a half from me and I can't really find anyone I'd be comfortable with soldering the IC chip back to the board. $330 for a replacement of the same exact phone with the same potential IC chip problem doesn't sound like a good solution either. Hopefully Apple will eventually acknowledge this problem and make it right.

I had this same issue and a place called Short Cirqit in Corona, California replaced what is called a Touch IC chip for me and now it works. it seems to be an issue on the motherboard. Search them online, I did there mail in service and they got it back to me in 3 days. Way cheaper then what an out of warranty replacement costs. They have an instagram with the repair being done on my phone.

This happens when the phone is bent.  The iphone 6 plus bends.  My last phone did this and Apple wouldn't cover it so I got a replacement.  I used to put phone in my back pocket and would occasionally sit on it getting into my car. So I started using my front pocket.  It also bent.  If you have an iphone 6 plus keep it out of your pockets.  First one lasted over a year.  Second one failed in about 3 months of front pocket use.

    Conclusion:

After 2 months of hassling I have resolved my issue with the 6 Plus touchscreen… to Apple’s satisfaction

After 2 unsuccessful and frustrating visits to “Geniuses” I sent my phone to one of the repairers mentioned earlier in this discussion. They have tried several times to repair the touch IC chips but, unfortunately, could not fix the phone. The conclusion was that the board was bent permanently and the chips just wouldn’t hold in place. They sent me a phone back with a completely unresponsive screen, and promised to issue a refund.

I have also looked at the offerings from LG, Samsung, and Huawei, and while not too bad, for the same price as an iPhone I was not convinced that they were better. The S7 looked great, but Samsung has a history of even worse customer support than Apple. Nexus 5X was already slightly outdated, and 6P has some poor reviews on the web showing how easy it is to bend and crack (much easier than 6/S Plus). On top of that, I simply don’t have time to figure out how to transfer 6 years of integration, app and message history to a completely new Android platform.

I also brought my 6 Plus with me to see what I can accomplish. To my surprise, the rep at the store immediately offered me $300 trade in as part of recycling problem, even though I told him the touchscreen doesn’t work. He said the screen is not cracked, and the phone powers up, so to him all is OK. I happily took the offer and applied it towards a 6S Plus with AppleCare, as I do not trust Apple quality anymore (like many of you, I never got it before because I don’t drop or break my phones; now it seems it is necessary as Apple no longer makes them “to last”). So for the same money I would have to shell out for a Nexus or S7 Edge, I got back with a phone just like the one I had before, but with a “guarantee” (hopefully) of 2 years of service.

I never wanted a new phone, and I was planning to keep my 6 Plus for a long time, but after everything that happened (touchscreen failure and inability of the 3rd party service to fix it) I chose this as the path of least resistance I really didn’t want any more hassle. So, “Well done Apple – you made more money on a poor schmuck”
