Cannot get audio out to work from either Line Out or Headphone Out jacks.  Any advice on troubleshooting?

What Mac Pro do you have? The 40 lb silver tower or the little black trashcan?

    Just what are you connecting?

When plugged in does it show in System Preferences>Sounds>Output?

Does it show it System Profiler?

    Trash can ....

Connecting audio cable to powered speakers -- has worked for years via headphone jack, but now neither Line Out nor HP jack will output sound. Here is System INfo on Audio:

Does the speaker now work with another device? Maybe the speakers are broken.

If you plug in a pair of earphones do they work?

If yo know the audio output device is working:

about all I can say now is if you hold down the option key (or alt key) and click on the speaker icon at the top of the screen, it shows you a list of all audio inputs and outputs, failing that, I'd go with what IIIaass said
