Jun 3, 2016 7:28 AM in response to gbrennanby lllaass,What Mac Pro do you have? The 40 lb silver tower or the little black trashcan?
Just what are you connecting?
When plugged in does it show in System Preferences>Sounds>Output?
Does it show it System Profiler?

Jun 3, 2016 3:30 PM in response to gbrennanby Johnb-one,about all I can say now is if you hold down the option key (or alt key) and click on the speaker icon at the top of the screen, it shows you a list of all audio inputs and outputs, failing that, I'd go with what IIIaass said
