Well after a week the visual voicemail came back on. iMessage is turned off so that did not work for me. I tried to turn iMessage on and back off and swipe away the phone app but it still did not work. on the phone app when I push the voicemail button the visual voicemail shows up. I have not called my carrier yet to see if they can disable that feature, that is my next step.

Eddie, after I shut off the Imessage I kept MMS and Group messaging on.  Text works fine and had no issue since.  You might want to give it a try. I am no teckie but this works for me.

Thanks ZZ. I just did that too and now my wife can't text me from HER iPhone! I do get group texts she replies to, and when a text fails, she gets the option "send as text message?" (Ummm, what WAS it before??)

    Does THAT tell us anything?

Dude, your tone was unnecessary.  It really irks me when people are condescending ***** on forums where others come to ask questions.  You shouldn't be attempting to help if you can't do so respectfully.

wjosten hasn't postd in this thread for about two years. He stated facts. Based on the number of points he has, all awarded by fellow users who found his answers helpful, he's pretty good at helping people. And he does it without resorting to profanity.

If you have a technical support question, people will be happy to answer it. Making your first post here a rather rude remark isn't a good way to start.

Well, I can honestly say I was unaware that "***" was considered profanity (even my most conservative friends would likely raise an eyebrow), so apologies if you personally found that offensive.  I've been in IT for many years, so I know that having knowledge that may indeed be helpful is not synonymous with treating others as equals, and not idiots for simply not knowing as much about a given topic as someone with far more expertise naturally would.  To ask, "What part of [statement] did you not understand?" is patently, objectively patronizing, and I suspect is something you would find quite offensive (especially given that you were offended by a word as innocuous as "***").

I've done this a few times and still no luck (BTW hansolo415, your instructions leave out pressing the "call" button after the *5005*...chain; Qbano100 luckily mentions it in his post. BTW, I get "your call cannot be completed as dialed" at that point; I assume that's normal?). All that happened for me is my fonts shrunk and wallpaper disappeared!

BTW, I gotta say that RBraet has a point. Visual Voicemail is something I had never heard of until I got an iPhone, but I've been using Voicemail for 20+ years. The voicemail that is a carrier feature is the one that most of us posting here are trying to use, not the iOS Visual Voicemail.

While Visual Voicemail is an iOS function, it is still either supported or not supported by your carrier. Your carrier provides your voicemail, and if they are an Apple supported carrier, they either support VVM or not. If they do not, there isn't anything that you need to do, just tap the voicemail button and the phone will react in the way your carrier has your voicemail set up. If they do support VVM, then your voicemail downloads on the cellular data connection and you can use the features of VVM. If you are not using a supported carrier, then your voicemail should remain as you are used to, it just dials your access number. If you are having problems with voicemail or VVM, you will still need to contact your carrier for assistance. They will have to either reset or diagnose any voicemail issues that you may be having to correct it. The only other troubleshooting that you can do at the phone end is to go into Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings to see if that helps before contacting your carrier.

well, it turns out I DID need to call AT&T to get rid of Visual Voicemail! Took them two tries to get it right but it's now gone.

Regarding the *#61# [call] sequence, I did get a sequence of "Setting Interogation Succeeded..." details that include the number to my voicemail. Is there any way to change the number the phone now calls (now that Visual Voicemail is gone) when I press the Voicemail icon at the bottom of the "Phone" screen? I'd like to append it with a "wait" or "pause" command and my password, which is what I've done with the Contact I set up as "Voicemail".

That question would have to be answered by your carrier as well. As stated earlier, they control voicemail. I know that if VVM is not set up originally on your account, when you tap the voicemail button, it dials your voicemail number, but this is all done "behind the scene". There is no setting available on the phone for determining the number, or editing the same.

MY 4s went completely dead last night I had it on Airplane mode. When I charged it this morning I had visual voicemail. I took it off Airplane mode and got my regular voicemail back.

If you have Verizon as your carrier ... you can log into

    your account and enable or

    disable VMM

I suspect that since Jc033 asked that question 5 years ago, it probably doesn't matter now.
