Q: Safari pinwheels and Mac runs slow in one account, lots of "nsurlstoraged" crash reports

Safari now usually takes a long time to open windows and tabs and enter urls. Sometimes this makes everything else on this user account slow. The problem does not exist in other user accounts. The problem still exists when doing a safe boot.

I'm not sure when the problem first started but I did notice the Mac and particularly Spotlight ran slower after manually installing the OS X El Capitan 10.11.2 Combo Update. I rebuilt the Spotlight index using the System Preference method and through Onyx. I've reset the SMC.

I've also cleared cookies, disabled Safari extensions, and manually deleted the "com.apple.Safari" folder from ~/Library/Caches. Maybe not in the right order or timing though.

Checking the Console I see in the User Diagnostics Reports section many "nsurlstoraged" crashes listed. Sometimes new ones get generated without the user doing anything, often if not always new ones are generated when a new tab or window is opened.

Here's an example nsurlstoraged crash report minus most of the "Binary Images" section:

Please back up all data before proceeding.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

    ~/Library/Cookies/Cookies.binarycookies

Right-click or control-click the line and select

Services Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)

from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Quit the application if it's running. Move the selected item to the Trash. Relaunch the application and test.

*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select

              Go Go to Folder...

from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You may not see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

Are those Blackberry drivers updated to be compatible with El Capitan?  If they're not, try to find an update.  If they're not updated, uninstall them.

Thanks, Linc, Safari no longer beachballs after deleting Cookies.binarycookies. I really appreciate the help. I would also really appreciate some context to help me understand:

What tipped you off to this resolution? Was it the following part of the crash report?

"Crashed Thread:        1  Dispatch queue: com.apple.cookied.cookieserver"

Do you have any idea what things might have caused the problem? Do you think it was just coincidental that I noticed slowness after installing the OS X El Capitan 10.11.2 Combo Update?

Thanks again! You are saving me so much time and made using my Mac much more pleasant.

Thanks pinkstones, I noticed those BlackBerry drivers too. There's an old BlackBerry Desktop Software.app in the Applications folder but no uninstaller. Do you happen to know if it would be better to hunt for an uninstaller from RIM or use AppDelete or AppCleaner to uninstall them?

Also, should I be concerned with this part of the report?

    User Launch Agents:

        [failed]    com.apple.CSConfigDotMacCert-[...]@me.com-SharedServices.Agent.plist

    Thanks.

I don't discuss the methods I use on this site, but you're on the right track. I don't know what caused the problem. Probably a random glitch.

I personally would hunt for an uninstaller from RIM, only because I don't think you should need a third-party app to remove programs from your computer, but that's me.  As for the second bit, I don't have a @me.com e-mail address, and I don't use iCloud anything, so if that's connected to it, that's outside my realm of knowledge.  I'm sure someone else will come along who knows more about that than I do.
