I tried the headphones in and out, I tried the paperclip with tissue, and by itself and nothing worked. I then sucked as hard as I could with my mouth over the headphone jack and the problem was solved! Thanks for everyone's input on here! LOTS of money saved.

Just reading through all these posts and trying what I can when I saw yours and gave it a shot. Sure enough I click the volume buttons and it's changed from Headphones to Ringer!

    Thanks for the tip!

Compressed air did the trick! I tried twice before to reset the phone and that did nothing. I never would have thought it was a physical problem since the headphones still worked.

Although this is long to read you'll thank me later

First of all i tried all the methods that had worked for people on here...and nothing worked to my frustration.

I then rang my mum too tell her is she called me i might not hear it because my iPhone is playing up and not ringing out loud. I rang my mum with my headphones in (only way i could use my phone), while i was on the phone i noticed the "loud speaker" button, and pressed it. And my iPhone took the call on loud speaker! I then unplugged my headphones and turned off loud speaker and IT WORKED AGAIN!

    So to break it up.....

-Ring someone with your headphones in

-put the call on loud speaker

    - unplug your headphones

-take the call off loud speaker

Thanks... that worked for me, although I simply circled the extended paper clip gently with only one leg, not two.  It freed up the ball(s) and is working now!

Awesome! Thank you! I tried so many other things and was starting to despair at the thought my volume would not work without headphones or bluetooth. Paperclip worked like a charm.

OMG, you are a life saver!! I left my phone in my back pocket and forgot about it and it fell in the toilet this morning. I tried the can of air, the blow dryer, plugging in and unplugging my headphones a million times, turning it off, and was about to do a reset but nothing worked. I was really nervous about sticking anything in there like a lot of articles suggested, but your saying it could take a little abuse and explaining about the balls gave me the confidence and I had it fixed in seconds!! I was thinking that because of water damage sticking something in there wouldn't work, but the ball thing made sense and that is what it was! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
