Q: Certain files are left behind when copying a project. Why ?

When I copy a project with the purpose of backing it up on another HD, it leaves out the pictures, voice overs, music and also some video.

The point is: I want to back-up my project in one move, so without having to identify 'missing files',  copying the folders with those contents seperatly and then relink them. How can I do this ? Why doesn't FCP bring all the files in ?

    Hi Tom,

I'll look into that, thank you. The case was this. I finsished a documentary with all the music, interviews, camerasound, voice-over etc. All different clips/connected storylines. Then I exported everything via X2pro for ProTools. Then I had to put that final mix under the video and tiles and so on. Without all the old sound of course. And that's where it got very inconvenient.

It was too much work to either delete/mute all the sound or copy the video only to a new project to add the final audio mix. There should be an easy way, but I haven't fiugered it out. So I had to pull down the sound of each clip or a selection of clips individually instead of just delete the old tracks. Also you have to be very carefull that all the soundclips are deleted/ muted, that you don't forget one by accident..How would you go about this ?

For monitoring purposes you can switch off the unwanted roles in the roles tab of the timeline index.

This is only for monitoring for you to check the mix with the picture. You set the master mix as a new role. When you export you export the picture you want with the master mix role only, I think that will give you what you want.

Aha..different thinking ! I'll have to play around with the timeline index and the role thing a bit more, maybe that'll solve the 'select' issues I keep running into.

Still working on that FCPX mindswitch...

    Thanks Tom !
